Anyone else check this turn with KK?

Postby kennyg » Sun Mar 20, 2005 6:57 pm

Is this a normal play for a lot of you? I felt bad about this particular hand for some odd reason...My opponent was a decent player. I remember palman mentioned this play in position. You save money if he has a set..and you get him to bet the river if he holds a pocket pair. agree? disagree?

I think hindsight is 20/20, but he kept checking to you and calling cause he hit his set... He was just slowplaying you for all your money... I probably don't check at the turn, and it probably cost me more than it should when he hits... I like the check at the turn.. I'm not sure I would've called his river... again, hindsight is perfect, but what could he have to stay in through your betting? Most of the things he would have beat you (2 pair, trips). A small possibility he had 45, but he probably wouldn't have called the preflop raise... In your position I probably would have called too, and it sucks... If you remember, I wrote a post where I went KK against AA... I bet the turn, he called, and I lost all of my money... You saved a nice chunk of money by not betting when you had a good hand and ran into a monster...

I called the river because I thought I might have induced a bluff...or had something like 99-QQ bet. But I did have a feeling I was losing. But it's incredibly tough to fold KK to that river bet. Matter of fact...I don't think you should.

Like I said... I'm 99% sure I wouldn't have folded... and I probably would've agreed that he was pushing a bluff... The only thing that could give me pause is the table cards... I mean, there's no real cards that someone would be just calling large bets with... If he had a pocket pair of 9s or 10s, he probably wouldn't have bet as much after the J came... He may have had Qs, and then this post would've been put in a glory column somewhere when you suckered him into losing his money  ... I guess it was just bad luck, but like I said, I would've called too, and I still do like the check on the turn (winning a small pot is better than losing a large one...).
