trips w/ a flush draw...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Wed Mar 23, 2005 8:07 am

Wondering if I'm playing a little too scared, or this was an appropriate raise... I had just sat down at a 2/4 NL at GC... I had about the max ($400) and he had the same...

Game # 289,179,667 starting.

He probably had an overpair, but everytime I have something good (ie... trips, 2 pair...) and see a flush or straight draw hit, it makes me a little uneasy... I think if I would've slow played it, I had the opportunity to win a LOT more of his bank, but what do I do if another heart falls and he bets big, or if a K falls and he bets big?

Thanks...MVP

I think of it this way....THere is a 65% chance the flush won't hit....and even if it does, you'll have 9 outs (~36% chance) pairing the board....the ideal situation would be the board pairing with the flush card, in that case, you'll take his whole stack....You have as many outs to suck him out as he does to make the flush.....

Still better to win a smaller pot than lose a bigger one slowplaying though....

edit: in this hand it looks like he is raising a monster hand AK, AQ, AA, KK, QQ, KQ.....When the low flop hits he follows his lead repping the overpair...I don't think i'm nervous at this point about him betting the flush draw, you'd be wary of him hitting his higher set......He could be trying to push out the flush himself...Once you reraised him big you were waving a giant 'i have a set' flag......i think i'd smooth call there and give him enough rope to hang himself.....
