new interesting play with AK suited. what do you think?

Postby kennyg » Fri Mar 25, 2005 11:09 pm

I thought this was an interesting turn play and probably my best option. This was a good player who I was pretty sure would bet to if I checked to him. I was trying to represent aces down but obviously if he called I was still either winning or had lots of outs.

What do you guys think? any other suggestions for my play on this hand?

I love it. Probably getting in with the best hand and better draw.

And in other news, UNC can kiss my ass. And so can Michigan State. :x :x :x

There is already $70 in the pot on the turn so I would just lead out with a pot-sized bet, basically commiting myself to the pot. The check-raise works but I dont want to give him a free card if he has a straight card in his hand. Having the flush draw lessens the chance of giving him a free card though so I can see how you would gamble in this spot. Also, if he calls you on the turn you have to assume you are drawing as most good players wouldnt call with just AQ or worse. The bottom line is that with the amount of chips involved and the size on the pot you are pretty much gonna be commited on the turn no matter what. Good for you for finding a way to get an extra $50 out of him, good work! I make plays like this occassinally but it is highly situational.

yeah if he checked behind i would have been pissed. I guess tha'ts poker though...lol..i gambled and won for once. Like you said it was situational...i wasn't gonna fold but i really felt he would bet in that spot.

I like the check here, I really do want him to bet but, a check is not the end of the world. It hides the fact that you have the A, you most likely have the best hand. If the staight card hits on the river it is going to suck but, there are more cards in the deck that hit you than his possible open ender. If he misses the river and you check you can probaly get him to make a bluff at it since you checked the turn and river.

kenny... You almost definitely have the best hand at this point, what about calling his turn and seeing the river to possibly get all his money. He could easily have a weaker ace or smaller flush draw than you... Were you scared of the diamonds? I mean, what straight draw would he have called a 6x BB preflop bet for? A2 (maybe)... I definitely like your check though...
