Raise this river? 1000 NL

Postby droqqa » Fri Apr 01, 2005 7:46 pm

I'll post this hand with results - I just called, as you will see, but I strongly considered raising here. I only feared 77 - but I also feared that only 77 would call a raise. Anyone raise this river?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

CO ($1065.25)
Button ($1103.25)
SB ($1337.75)
BB ($1029)
UTG ($1883.75)
UTG+1 ($1000)
UTG+2 ($1041)
Hero ($1387.75)
MP2 ($436.5)
MP3 ($1845.5)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [Qc], [Ks]. SB posts a blind of $5.
3 folds, Hero calls $10, 1 fold, MP3 calls $10, 2 folds, SB (poster) completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($40) [Qd], [Kh], [7c] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $40, MP3 folds, SB calls $40, BB folds.

Turn: ($120) [8h] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $120, SB calls $120.

River: ($360) [4s] (2 players)
SB bets $300, Hero calls $300.

Final Pot: $960

Results in white below:
SB has Kd Ad (one pair, kings).
Hero has Qc Ks (two pair, kings and queens).
Outcome: Hero wins $960.

Last week i wouldve just called that river bet. This week I wouldve raised. Its a very strange line for the guy to take.

Almost everyone wouldve raised or check raised you by now with 77. I think a raise is called for here.

I don't think he would call a raise here. Only if he has you beat.

Even so, I still think a raise is good. Theres a lot to be said for making him fold and having him gritting his teeth while he does it and him not knowing what you made that play with. Hes liable to call next time just to find out.
