agg 10-20 hands

Postby cholo loco » Mon Mar 28, 2005 12:07 pm

ive played a lot of sh 5-10 and quite a bit of full table poker up to 30-60 but have recently started playing the sh 10-20 and 15-30 at party. these games take aggresion to a whole new level.
ill just ost a hand and see what the other sh players think is the appropriate actions.

15-30 6 handed
ive got AJo in the bb and call a raise from a very agg late position player. utg had limped and also calls. the flop comes down QJ6 and i check raise the pf rasier and succesfully knock out the player between us.
unfortunately (?) i get 3 bet.
what would your line be from here on out.
i realize this is a fairly simple hand but it occurs fairly often and i think there are different lines you can take here.
any comments are appreciated.

What Id do

Well the first thing is obviously call the 3 bet and see if you improve. If not, and a blank comes off on the turn, and If the raise came from a 'very agg' LP player, i wouldnt fold that hand. SH loose agressive or 'agg' players are too unpredictable, and you have to pay them off in certain situations to avoid getting run over. He could have a Q or an overpair of course, but if you say the guy is agg then (IMO) you should pay him, because there are too many 'agg' players that would play a flush draw, a KT, an AJ, a KJ or even AK (especially AK) the same way. Some players even pull crap like this with something like TT, or other hands that they'd like to see a cheap river on, since SH players hate mucking PPs.

Mind you, this applies only if he is a truly agg. player, and is very unpredictable. If he was an 'average' player, id say muck to a big bet on the turn.

Just curious, what did you do with that hand?

i went into a shell and check calle dit down. he had AT and MHIG. i never really put much thought into folding, or anything else for that matter. it was a very routine hand, but it is such a reoccuring situation that i thought it warranted discussion(which most people seem to disagree).
my big question is if i should get more aggressive in these scenarios. against a player i could possibly lay down against i would consider 3 betting and then leading and folding to a turn raise. against this player i still cant make that laydown so im not sure being that agg accomplishes anything, because while hes agg hes not stupid and can lay down a hand thats obviously no good. check calling lets him hang himself, which he did on both the turn and river, so may be the best way to extract max value.
there are a lot of imponderables in any hand though so i wonder if more aggression is warranted or if just calling down against these LAGs may be the best course of action.
