Slowplaying Aces bites

Postby The A Train » Wed Aug 23, 2006 4:35 am

I have seen this happen so often in low buy in sng's. This was in a heads up game I had last night.

POKERSTARS GAME #6009351559: TOURNAMENT #30439152, HOLD'EM NO LIMIT - MATCH ROUND I, LEVEL III (25/50) - 2006/08/22 - 07:43:33 (ET)
Table '30439152 1' 2-max Seat #2 is the button
Seat 1: Hero (2170 in chips)
Seat 2: Villian (830 in chips)
Villian: posts small blind 25
Hero: posts big blind 50
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [2d 5d]
Villian: raises 50 to 100
Hero: calls 50
*** FLOP *** [Qc 6h 2c]
Hero: checks
Villian: bets 50
Hero: calls 50
*** TURN *** [Qc 6h 2c] [2h]
Hero: checks
Villian: bets 50
Hero: raises 150 to 200
Villian: calls 150
*** RIVER *** [Qc 6h 2c 2h] [5h]
Hero: bets 250
Villian: raises 230 to 480 and is all-in
Hero: calls 230
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Villian: shows [Ad Ac] (two pair, Aces and Deuces)
Hero: shows [2d 5d] (a full house, Deuces full of Fives)

I know that calling with 52 is not normally a +ev event but I have played this opponent a few times and my notes on him indicated that he minimum raises with monsters. With the Q high flop my only worry was QQ. I still thought that I was behind AA or KK but again given his minimum raise I thought that if I improved I could stack him. If I didn't improve on the turn I was done with the hand. The deuce on the turn was magic. I knew I could get a check raise in and would of been surprised if he didn't call. The river was just an added bonus.
I don't know how often lately I have seen players raising the minimum when they are in front and calling pot size bets when they are behind.
My query is - apart from the minimun raise preflop would you play the hand any differently if you were the villian? Even now looking at the hand history I don't know if I could have folded his hand when the second deuce hit and I check raised. I may have even reraised all in on the turn given his hand and chip stack and that board. What would you have done if you were villian. If you fold his hand when would you fold and what would you have put me on.

If I was the villian I would either make a real raise preflop or just limp. Then i'd bet 1/2 to 2/3 the pot on the flop and the turn to deny you any odds of chasing with a pair or gutshot or something. He played the hand abismally. I think you played it fine.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

I'm very confused. You're saying you put him on a monster but yet you raise the flop with bottom pair. Care to explain that?
