2 AA Hands

Postby TightWad » Mon Apr 04, 2005 12:37 am

Hi folks,

Here's two hands I played today that are sorta similar, but sorta not. One, I think I wanked up pretty fierce. The other, I think my line was more defensible, but still open to criticism. I'll let you figure out which is which, and I'll post my thoughts after a couple responses.

Hand 1:

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: TW is MP3 with [Ac], [Ad].
3 folds, MP1 calls, 1 fold, TW raises, 4 folds, MP1 calls.

Flop: (5.33 SB) [Js], [4c], [Jc] (2 players)
MP1 checks, TW bets, MP1 calls.

Turn: (3.66 BB) [8d] (2 players)
MP1 checks, TW checks.

River: (3.66 BB) [7d] (2 players)
MP1 bets, TW calls.

Final Pot: 5.66 BB

Results in white below:
MP1 has Tc Jd (three of a kind, jacks).
TW has Ac Ad (two pair, aces and jacks).
Outcome: MP1 wins 5.66 BB.

Hand 2:

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: TW is CO with [Ad], [Ac].
5 folds, MP3 calls, TW raises, 3 folds, MP3 calls.

Flop: (5.33 SB) [4s], [Qh], [Tc] (2 players)
MP3 checks, TW bets, MP3 calls.

Turn: (3.66 BB) [Qd] (2 players)
MP3 checks, TW checks.

River: (3.66 BB) [9d] (2 players)
MP3 bets, TW calls.

Final Pot: 5.66 BB

Results in white below:
MP3 has 9s Jc (two pair, queens and nines).
TW has Ad Ac (two pair, aces and queens).
Outcome: TW wins 5.66 BB.

AA with paired flop is my favourit money grave at the moment.

Any general advice how to play this correctly (+EV)

On the first hand I would have bet the turn and folded to a raise if the guy is relatively ABC. Someone with a jack will almost always CR here, and a flush draw will almost always call. So you'll still lose 1BB if he has the jack, but gain a bet if he has the flush draw (and misses). If he's a bluffer, then I like the check.

The second hand I probably would have played the same. I hate it when the top card pairs.
