What to do when?

Postby Suhleafs » Tue Apr 05, 2005 1:06 am

A steal from the button goes to sh*t?

Here's the situation: $100 NL Prima

Since I love stealing small pots, the cutoff limps to me on the button, I have [Jd] [Tc], I raise to $4, the SB then re-raises the minimum to $7, the cutoff folds and it's back to me.

Is this an easy fold? Or do you take a look at the flop since you are getting approx. 4-1 on the re-raise.

I folded the hand looking for a better spot to get the money.

if the SB has a solid stack i call and hope to hit the flop hard enough to bust what looks like AA or KK.

Knowing what your opponent is likely to hold puts you at a *huge* advantage in the hand. you can feel comfortable getting all in on a J10rag flop. yes, you're only getting 4-1 right now, but implied odds are through the roof with the hand he's representing.

I think this is a definite call. The raiser is making a huge mistake by both giving away his hand strength, and also giving you the best possible odds to out-flop him. Like Stel said, it's all about implied odds. You're hoping to flop a big hand like two pair, trips or a straight. But if your opponent is only mini-raising here, he might compound the error and make an underbet on the flop, thus giving you a cheap chance to outdraw him if you flop an open-ender or a pair. A call here is definitely correct AS LONG AS you use the information he gives you, i.e. you're not going to get overly committed to a one pair flop or try to semibluff him with a draw.
