OK, putting on my professor's hat, I'm trying to spot where I went wrong. Please give me your thoughts...

1) Pre-Flop - I was in MP with the little suited connectors, and fancied a shot. I would fold if the flop didn’t fit. When SB mini-raised should I of folded? 7-1 odds, why not I thought?

2) Post-Flop – Right, scary flop that the SB chased off everyone else. And I called for the flush draw, 3.25-1 immediate odds. But I felt SB only had Ax/Kx/QJ and definitely no spades, so I thought if I caught my flush, I’d win. But I’m not good at calculating effective odds, was it the correct call against someone with 2 pair, Trips?

3) Turn – The killer card, K, and SB coolly checks it. Of course I checked too, since I haven’t made my flush. I thought he had Trip Ks at most. Thinking now, I should of worried about him making a boat at least.

4) River – The flush card comes, and I don’t stop and think long enough, so I call his all-in bet. I just quickly thought he only had trips or a straight.

So……..when would you semi-pro’s have laid it down? Pre-Flop, Flop? There would have been no way of betting/raising that I could have done to have pushed him off the pot. Should I count myself lucky he only had $8 to start with.

Everything looks fine except the river. I would fold there although a call isnt the end of the world. Unfortunately stacks werent deep enough to raise to see where you were.

Two things I always think about prior to making a call there.

1. What does my opponent have? And what doesnt he have?
2. What am I beating?

For your situation...

1. He could have a boat. He could have a flush. He could have quads. He more than likely does not have a straight as no player is going to push on the river with the flush paired board. Same can be said for only trips.

2. Using the above analysis, you are not beating anything other than a bluff, straight or trips and the overwhelming majority of the time they are not going to push there for either of these cases. So in theory you are not beating anything.

Easy fold IMHO.
