Top 2 and a toughie

Postby BadBeatMan » Fri Apr 08, 2005 3:49 pm

Happened yesterday so I dont remember exactly how it went down but here's a summary/

Im BB and post ($1)
its checked to the small blind who min raises and I just call...He's been min raising with big pairs.

I have [Ah] [Qs]

Flop [As] [2c] [Qh]

He bets the pot into me and I smooth call...I was worried he had QQ or AA. But KK or AK
was a possiblity

at this point I beat every hand except AA QQ or 22

turn and river are both blanks and he keeps betting into me heavily and I just call

I end up all in and winning a 245 dollar pot

Would you guys have re-raised for information or kept passively calling I feel like I played this pot like a weakling...

Does he only min-raise with big pairs? If this is your read, you have to trust it. I agree that just calling this down is somewhat passive, but it worked out for you. Personally I raise with top two because it is a hand that often will not hold up to the river, and I want to get my chips in early while I am ahead.

It depends on how hes been playing other hands. I have no problem just calling him on every street with this hand and this flop if hes going to get all his money in for me..

You want all the money in the pot, and you got it in there. To your actual question, its really opponnent specific. Most of his likely hands don't have many outs, so it's not a dangerous situation to be passive. If your opponnent is passive I'd think raising and betting would be the best way to get it all in, but if he is aggressive, just calling can be fine.

BadBeat... I would normally fire out w/ 2 pair, but if you were pretty sure you were ahead, and the board seemed very unthreatening (ie... no flush draws, no straight draws...), and I would probably just do what you did and call him down... like all the other said, it's opponent specific, and also is kinda based on your image (ie... I play ubertight, and if I bet too much, everyone seems to fold to me...)...

I have been kicked in the nuts often w/ 2pr...probably my biggest leak, taught me how vulnerable 2pr is....usually you'll have 2pr w/broadway cards, or cards close enough for str8 possibilities....win a small pot or lose a huge one....
