What to do on the turn

Postby iceman5 » Tue Apr 12, 2005 11:16 am

$2/$4 NL

UTG raises to $10, MP calls $10. I reraise to $45 with [Kh][Kd] on the button.
UTG calls and MP folds. I have no read on UTG. I have a full $400 and he has me covered.

The pot is $106. The flop comes [5s][3s][2h]. He checks and I bet $80...he calls.
The pot is now $266. The turn is the [9s]. He checks. Whats your plan from here? Do you bet? Any bet pot commits you. Do you check and allow a free card if he has a spade?

Any reads at all? Good player? Calling station?

What does he raise so small with preflop? Wired tens or jacks maybe? AK?

I am going to hope he's a calling station, and guess that he's on a pair lower than my Ks, and hope it's not 9s, 5s, 3s, or 2s. So I bet about $100 on the turn to make him pay if he has a spade. If he's a calling station and re-raises all-in I still think I can fold this, though it would be painful.

On the other hand, if he's a good/tricky player, then I have to call an all-in check raise, so I check behind on the turn and just hope another spade doesn't hit.

I think I bet again because if he has AA or a set he would surely lead out at this point fearing a check behind and dropping a 4th spade on the board. He would check if here on the turn in my mind only if he was looking to draw to a spade or he made the flush already. If he called me with 2 suited spades preflop I guess I must pay him off. I bet 150

I think I all-in here, if he happened to call you with Ak or AQ of spades than so be it, it sucks but you cant give him a free card to make a flush with the ace or king of spades or a hand like JJ or1010 with a spade. I would say you are way ahead 2 out of 3 times or better and by pushing all in he is not getting odds to call with a single high spade and if he does even better for you you are 3:1 against the A of spades.

I push-in. I'm fairly certain he's got 77-QQ and there's no reason to give him a possible free 11-outer.

Ok, you guys confirmed my suspicion that I screwed this one up. I checked the turn behind him. The river was a 4 and he hit his gutshot with AK.

He did have the [As]

He went on to explain that he called my $80 flop bet because he had 12 outs. That alone tells me he doesnt know what hes doing.

He actually had 7 outs on the flop. If I had AA, he wouldve had 4 outs to split and if I had QQ, he wouldve had 10. EIther way, he played the hand poorly, but I shouldve probably pushed the turn all in. Im guessing he wouldve called though since he now wouldve thought he had about 21 outs.
