I've been playing Limit (.5/1 and 1/2) with consistent positive results - average 4BB/100. Over the weekend, I decided to drop in to a $20 NL game. I had some great early success - two sessions, I was up 5 buy-ins.

I've since given it all back on subsequent sessions - most likely due to not knowing at all what I'm doing.

I've read posts here and the articles here on NL and raising and re-raising and am sure that this is my weakness. I noticed in the sessions I won, I was flailing away, raising and re-raising. The sessions I lost, I was pretty much calling and limp-raising. A case of "ignorance is bliss...." (NOTE: I was playing good starting hands in both winning and losing sessions.)

Can anyone point me to additional resources which will help me understand this aspect of NL?

I dont know of a specific resource that will help you here. I cant even think of a book that covers the correct amount to raise. I will try to define how I like to raise, maybe it will help you. Preflop, with good hands never min raise, with monsters raise min of 4x BB. I almost never raise one unit post flop, if I have a big hand and want to build a pot if somone is going to call a min raise, then they most likely will call a 2x, or 3x raise. How many people are in the pot and how much is in the pot is another major consideration. In NL if you have a hand you almost always want to be heads up, so if they are more players in the pot you need to raise bigger to isolate one player. If there is more money in the pot you also have to raise bigger to not give a player odds to call on their draws. There is a huge difference between a $15 raise with a pot of $15 or a pot of $60. First off, welcome to NL! I started off in limit with some success and made the jump to NL and have never looked back

I use one standard raise pre flop for AA,KK,QQ, AK, AQ, AJ and a few others from LP, always 4BB, and I almost always bet the flop (pot sized bet) no matter the texture, even on the missed AK/AQ/AJs unless its 3 suited and/or someone bets into the pot before me. If the pots been raised before it gets to me pre flop, and If have AA/KK I will usually re-raise 3 x the original raisers amount.

Generally if your going to bet on the flop, 3/4 - full pot sized bet is pretty standard, the only time I really deviate from that is if I flopped the nuts or close to it and want callers.
