Progression of a big pair limper

Postby iceman5 » Wed Apr 13, 2005 12:41 pm

Alot of players like to limp with AA at the beginning of theire careers because they dont want everyone to fold if they raise too much. Then they get busted a few times and decide to cut that out and raise them.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Limping with AA and KK in EP is one of the most profitable plays as long as you can fold them if need be to heavy action in an unraised pot. Most people just cant do it. They keep staring back at their cards and boy does that AA staring back at them look seductive. I think KK looks even prettier staring back at me.

At higher stakes, you have to find ways to extract money from people. Alot of people will not call a raise from a tight aggressive player.

Here are 2 more examples of limping up front with KK. Now these particular hands are easy to play but imagine what wouldve happened if I had raise to $16 preflop. Nothing wouldve happened. I wouldve most likely just taken the blinds.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

MP1 ($320.85)
MP2 ($382.3)
MP3 ($446)
CO ($370.1)
Button ($171)
SB ($72.4)
BB ($396.2)
UTG ($400)
Hero ($411.8)
UTG+2 ($381)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with [Kh], [Kc]. SB posts a blind of $2.
1 fold, Hero calls $4, 3 folds, MP3 calls $4, CO calls $4, Button calls $4, SB (poster) completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($24) [2h], [2s], [Ks] (6 players)
SB checks, BB bets $25, Hero calls $25, MP3 folds, CO folds, Button folds, SB calls $25.

Turn: ($99) [3c] (3 players)
SB calls $43.40 (All-In), BB calls $43.40, Hero raises to $100, BB calls $56.60.

River: ($342.40) [Jh] (3 players, 1 all-in)
BB checks, Hero calls $282.80 (All-In), BB calls $267.20 (All-In).

Final Pot: $892.40
Main Pot: $229.20, between SB, BB and Hero. > Pot won by Hero ($229.20).
Pot 2: $647.60, between BB and Hero. > Pot won by Hero ($647.60).
Pot 3: $15.59, returned to Hero.

Results in white below:
SB has Qh 2c (three of a kind, twos).
BB has 9s 2d (three of a kind, twos).
Hero has Kh Kc (full house, kings full of twos).
Outcome: Hero wins $892.39.

Would the blinds have called a raise with that junk? No way.

Hand #2) I dont have the hand history for this one.

$2/$4 NL....I limp UTG with KK. The pot is unraised and we see the flop 4 handed.
The pot is $16 I think. The flop is T84 with 2 diamonds.
I bet $15 and get one caller.
Pot is $46. The turn is a king. I bet $50. He min raises me. I push all in and he calls (only had another $50 or so).

He had KT and I win. Would he call $16 preflop from an UTG raiser with KT? Doubtful

Like I said, these are very easy hands to play as I got the perfect flop in hand #1 and the perfect turn in hand #2, but the fact that I limped is what made the hands monsters. At higher stakes, plays like these are a necessity to get paid off alot of times. This explains why my preflop raise % is only 3.4% or so.

Nice to read this because out of my 8000 hands so far played online so far I have only limp/re-raised once with AA under the gun. A MP player made it $11 to go (this is in the Stars $100), I made if $50 to go when it got back to me. He called, the flop came Q hi, I pushed my remaining $50 or so all in, he called and showed me QQ :(

I'll try again.

Unfortunately, I can't limp with big pairs as a LAG. LAG play CANNOT work if you slowplay monsters or limp with AA or KK, because every time I raise there's not a chance that I could actually have it, and it becomes too easy to play against me.
