Hello BTP'ers

I have been lurking for a couple weeks, played limit for a month with $100 took it up to $270 then back down to $100. I realized that I was making more mistakes per hour than BB per hour on the Party Tables. I withdrew my $100 because I figured I couldn't beat the game.

So I give NL a shot..I read this forum and realize I don't know a damn thing. I read some more and am starting to get the very basics down. I signed up a friend to Party and got a $50 bonus. It is now $450. I have been moving my meager br around trying to get bonuses and am now waiting for my damn PIN to come from Ecash Direct.

Discipline was an issue with limit but I have been getting better with NL. My main leak is playing any 2 suited cards from the blinds then chasing the flush. Very -EV. I am using poker tracker to keep stats and find my holes. The suited blinds and blind play in general is very poor.

I enrolled at PokerPlex last night only to realize they don't have my $25 buyin games and the the lowest NL game is .50/1.00..... And there is 2 weeks until I get my money out!
So I am pissed. FInally I said *&^*^ I am good enough... I will play at this level and I will just do everything 4x higher than I would at Party. I play TAG and have been doing some extra min raises just to up my PFR, confuse my opponents....and piss off people with marginal holdings.

I only played about 20 hands.....Here is what happened

Commentary....I have an OK hand AQ suited clubs from EP and I decide I will just call and see what happens....Lots of folds preflop on this table. Keopsm...the Villain is raising all the time and complains that everyone at the table sucks and should be playing limit. He raises to $4...everyone folds. I came back over top of him to $12 to buy the pot there. He played most hands and I figured he might lay it down. He goes ALL IN. ^%$^^ I don't want to lose $12. I am way over my head in skill level and in BR. I put him on a PP but didn't think it would be AAKKQQ so I had two overs. So I call (GAMBLE - AKA Stupid). He has 99. I hit the nut flush on the turn and take down $97 dollars (LUCK). This is 1/3 of my BR at the time...Stupid, played the hand completely wrong and won. Gotta love poker.

2 Hands later. This gem. I wouldn't have got action if I didn't go all in with the AQ 2 hands earlier.

I played this one textbook and the cards fell exactly as I hoped. All in on the flop...so not much thinking...but a nice pot nonetheless. I had checkraised this guy on one of my first hands and took $4 from him...that may have made him push me....I don't know.

So yeah...$150 in 2 hands....first time playing .50 and 1.00....I am waiting for that damn PIN so I can go back to Party where I feel safe. This time I was the fish and it all worked out.

Thank-you BTP! I beginning to see the light.

I plan on contributing my knowledge (and lack thereof) to these forums as much as possible....may even start a journal. Yesterday I was a fish...and it paid!

To start with you are playing way out of the limit for your bankroll. I know its not as much fun but you need to drop a level, maybe even two. You said it yourself that you dont feel like you know what your doing at NL, in which case you shouldn't be playing the $100 tables unless you are ok with the idea that you very likely could lose your bankroll. I did the same thing when I first started playing cash games and I lost a nice chunk of money gaining an education, before I was able to turn a profit. My suggestion is to play the $25 tables for a while, when you win consitantly, move up to $50 and so on.

As for the two hands posted, I really dont like your call all in with AQ suited, in the long run this will kill you. Your best case scenario is a coin flip, often times you will run into AA or KK even AK has you a huge underdog.

Hand 2- I think you played this one fine, your oppoant is short stacked so the all-in call is pretty easy.

Thanks for the reply,

I know its not where I belong and I don't plan to play there (hence why I left after 20 hands) I just thought it was funny that the poker gods were on my side when I was playing way above my br and skill level. My cash and br is locked here so I won't be playing poker till payday...still waiting for my PIN from E-Cash direct to arrive.

I have logged 5000 hands at the 25 party tables and had a tiny profit. I took a break, opened a fresh database and now am getting serious...I am hoping to cruise my $450 up to $1000 before I play $50 nl...I may also play 15,000 hands on 25 NL and do a major review every 5000 until my profit level is respectable.

I AM GOING TO BECOME A GOOD POKER PLAYER.

That's my goal, I wanna make cash too..But I want to understand the game. I am starting to see bits and pieces. Slowly but surely I will get there.

Side Note: NL Newbs shouldn't try to whore the bonuses at Crypto sites...the stakes are too high!

UltimateBet has $10 and $25 NL tables - even $2 if you want to get some experience on the cheap.
