Tripped over myself...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Sun Apr 17, 2005 10:36 pm

A LOT of times that I flop trips, it seems like there's a draw out there, and for God knows what reason (maybe I was abused by a flush as a child), I think I overbet all the streets, trying to take down a sure small pot as opposed to losing all my money when some jackball hits his flush/straight... What makes this play worse, to me, is that this table was VERY LAGgy.. I think by slowplaying, I could've gotten much more money out of this hand... and I hate to leave free money on the table...

Any advice would be appreciated... am I overplaying...?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (9 handed)

Hero ($107.80)
BB ($54.50)
UTG ($62.85)
UTG+1 ($151.65)
MP1 ($142.60)
MP2 ($18.50)
MP3 ($127.05)
CO ($98.50)
Button ($66.90)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Th], [Ts].
UTG calls $1, 1 fold, MP1 calls $1, 3 folds, Button calls $1, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($5) [2h], [Td], [8h] (5 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets $3, MP1 calls $3, Button calls $3, Hero raises to $15, BB folds, UTG folds, MP1 folds, Button calls $12.

Turn: ($41) [3d] (2 players)

I bet the pot and he folded...
Final Pot: $41

You dont need to bet the pot there. He has only 7 outs. You can bet 1/2 to 2/3 pot if you think he has the flush draw.

Do you like the flop raise, or should I have just called...? Also, what kind of bet would you have put in on the turn...?

I like betting the flop. You have most of the tens covered so theres a good chance if you check it will get checked around and someone with the flush draw gets a free shot at hitting it.

If you check and the flush hits, you can only call if he makes a small bet and gives you odds to hit th boat. Even if you do, the pot is going to be small. I like to win a big pot with a set. If they fold on the flop..so be it.

If I had been your opponent and I bet the flop and you check raised, there is almost no hand I would call you with on that flop.
