Live "real" NL cash games

Postby Zarathustra » Thu Apr 21, 2005 12:21 pm

Just wondering if anybody knows of casinos which spread real NL cash games. I am interested in a possible poker trip later this year.

I spent a week in New Orleans in March and played at Harrah's. They have a $5/$5 NLHE game with $100 min. buy-in (no max). It was great and a totally different experience than the super short stack games you often see spread (I believe my brother says that Trumps Indiana has $5/$5 blinds with $100 max -- yes you read that right). The buy-ins at Harrah's ranged from fish who liked to lose their bankroll $100 or $200 at a time, to obvious regulars who bought in for a couple thousand. I just wanted to test the waters with a $200 buy-in but turned that into $2266 by the end of the week. One of the regulars told me he was from Miami and flew in once a month to play in this game it was so good. It was cool having a deep stacks relative to the blinds and able to play real NL poker. And there were very few all-ins, but when a deep stack made a move, it got some eyebrows.

I won't be down to N.O. for awhile, please BTPers don't destroy that game for me before I get back down :)

Trump Indiana is up by Gary/Chicago/Michigan,
the ohio riverboats are down by Cincinatti/Louieville.
I am going to Grand Victoria, near Albany/Louisville to see what kind of games they have spread there.
It won't be until mid-May, though
I could, at least, report back what kind of games are there.
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

I've played Ceasars Indiana outside of New Albany. They spread 4/8 limit, some Omaha, a stud game and some times have a 1/2NL Hold'em game with I think 100 minimum 500 max buy in. I've never sat in the NL game, as it has only been running a few times that I've played there on weekends, and never during the week. I think if they changed the structure and spread it daily it would eventually never break on the weekends.

As you all can probably tell, I'm about half an hour from Atlantic City. Trop spreads no-limit games up to 5/10 (and higher if you know how to ask). Taj likewise. The generally accepted max buy-in is 150BB at these "lower limit games."

You can sit with whatever you want, but only 150 BB in play.

I'm sure that high-limit games (10/20, 20/40 NL and up) don't have maxes, but they probably have 50-100 BB minimums.

Foxwoods in CT has a 1/2 and a 5/5 no limit games. I was reading a post recently about how the players at foxwoods poker room are better, on average, than players in Vegas. Not meaning the best at foxwoods are better than the best in Vegas, just the average play at the tables. This poster suggested a possible reason is that there are all sorts of conventions, etc that happen in Vegas so more clueless people show up at the games there. At foxwoods it is just a casino, albeit the biggest in the world, with nothing around it. So only players and gamblers are going to go there.

That sounded like a reasonable assumption to me.

Turtle Lake Wisconsin has a casino that plays NL ring games from what I hear (I am in MN and haven't been there to verify it)

I heard the .50/$1 max $100 buy in tables are great to play. Lots of not so good players there.

but like I said I haven't had a chance to check this out for sure yet.
