AA flop overplayed... ?

Postby MVPSPORTS » Fri Apr 22, 2005 4:35 pm

Was the flop bet too strong? Not a lot of reads here, except that I was looking at his stack since I sat down, and I was drooling over myself to get it... I think maybe I pushed too hard...

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $1 BB (8 handed)

MP2 ($34.95)
CO ($42.05)
Button ($81.25)
SB ($185.65)
BB ($49)
UTG ($52.20)
UTG+1 ($100.35)
Hero ($90.25)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [Ad], [Ac].
2 folds, Hero raises to $5, 3 folds, SB raises to $9, 1 fold, Hero raises to $28, SB calls $19.

Flop: ($57) [Qd], [7d], [6c] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $57, SB folds.

Final Pot: $114

Yeah, you pushed too hard on this one. You have position on a re-raiser with AA. I would have flat called preflop. He is likely to have AK, KK, or QQ here. Just smooth call and let him do the betting - he's likely to fire on the flop and turn, when you can raise him. If he checks, you dont have to worry about giving a free card, since you have position.

Once you take the line that you did, re-raising preflop - I think you have to fire out on the flop when checked to - a check behind just looks too suspicious. Personally, I think a check behind on the flop is scarier than a pot sized bet anyday. I might have made a 1/2 pot bet though - he might have been more likely to call.

It's that damned "BET POT" button on UB... it's just too easy for lazy people like me to not have to think about pot odds and all that stuff...

My PF reraise was kinda goading him into putting me allin... he had the autoraise button checked when he made his origional bet... probably dumb, but oh well...

Never use the "bet pot" button.
Make them try to figure out why you bet 3/4 pot this time and full pot last time.
