This being pot limit I bet the flop to build a good pot if I hit my draw. Obviously a great turn card for my hand, I really thought this guy was on a flush draw, when he check called, my turn bet. With both of us having big stacks at this table, I didnt want to have to call a check raise on the river???

I've only ever been check raised on the river once, so I tend not to worry about it too much. Plus he'd have likely made a move on the flop or turn with a set on a draw-ish board.

I think I'd have made it $20-$30 on the river. I think I also call a check-raise, since you've disguised your hand nicely (though bravely, with a fair crowd on the flop!)

There's something in SS2 about forcing yourself to value bet the river on the offchance they weren't drawing.

Also betting the river with real hands lets you bluff it with missed draws/steals with more credibility.
