AJo hand

Postby Dumb Snowman » Tue Apr 26, 2005 4:36 pm

Ok, to set this up, I'm playing at the $10 NL games at pacific (gave me free cash :D ). I might be tilting a little bit as I just lost about an hour's profit when I had set over set and he hit his quads.

Ok, so I have [As] Jh] on the button, the table is 6 handed right now. Everyone limps to me for .10 and I raise it to .50, and of course, everyone calls.

Then the flop comes [Ac] [Qd] [9c]

UTG +1 raises to a dollar, I make it 2.50. He calls. Everyone else folds somewhere along the way.

Turn is a low unsuited rag.

He checks, I bet 5. He calls.

River brings another rag and he thinks for about 5 seconds and pushes all in for 10 bucks.

So the pot is 18 before he pushes, I'm getting nearly 3 to one. Also, about an hour ago, he made the same river/turn play on a complete bluff.

What do you do? I'll tell you what I did later.

I make this call based on your reads. I am also not surprised to see A9 or Q9. I would be somewhat more surprised to see AQ or AK. Any other Ace is a good possibility, as is a busted flush draw. I think your odds of winning are better than 1:3.

Tough situatuons like this come from raising with AJ. Dont do that anymore. At least not after multiple limpers.

In these really passive games, raising with AJ is going to pot commit you and not get you heads up, better off limping and playing a smaller pot post flop.

You don't raise AJo 6-handed?

Ok, well anyway I decided to call, and my guit was right, he had AK. Aside from preflop, is there anywhere in this hand that I should have pinned him to it and check/folded?

Against the players I see at the low limit pacific tables, he coulda been play A2 or KQ, you'd be surprised. I felt he had the AK this time but I figured that getting 3:1, I should still make the call, as there was at least a 25% chance of me winning. What do you all think? Easy fold even with the pot odds?
