I hate sessions like the one I just left... Two huge fish at the table and I can't catch a hand to save my life!

Oh well. I won $108 playing live $3/$6 at The Palace, so the night wasn't a total loss.

WHEEE!!! That was fun!!! :D

Image

Every once in a while you just have one of those days. Today was that day. I already posted a couple of hands from today's sessions, and there were many more like them. My big pairs were holding up (12/14 with AA/KK/QQ/JJ); my draws came in when I needed them to, and so on. I've been around the block enough by now to realize that it wasn't just my awesome play - when your WtSD is a middle-of-the-road 33.48% and your W$SD is a smoking 75.00%, you know you're running hot.

Anyway, it's nice to have a good day. In the past, posts like this one have guaranteed a downswing, but not this time!

Oh, and my BR is back above $2500 for the first time in quite a while. That's a nice feeling.

Finished off my 15K hands at LHE and started playing some PLO8 again. Quite a change of pace going from 6-max LHE to FR PLO8. I might have to start 4-tabling just to stay awake. :) I was pretty much missing every flop possible, but caught just enough to eke out a small profit on the night (for the PLO8, anyway)

Ok, that was an exercise in frustration...

Number of hands of PLO8 today - 533
Number of decent two-way hands where I 3/4ed someone or better - 1

Might as well post the one decent hand I had today.

Poker Stars
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
9 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $25
UTG+1: $20.10
MP1: $15
MP2: $17.65
MP3: $23.30
CO: $20.90
Hero: $23.70
SB: $19.30
BB: $15

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is Button with [2c] [As] [7c] [7h]
UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, MP1 (poster) checks, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO calls, Hero calls, SB folds, BB (poster) checks.

Flop: [7d] [Jc] [6c] ($1.6, 6 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP3 bets $0.25, CO calls, Hero raises to $2.55, 3 folds, MP3 calls, CO folds.

Turn: [Qc] ($6.95, 2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero checks.

River: [5s] ($6.95, 2 players)
MP3 bets $0.25, Hero raises to $7.4, MP3 calls.

Results:
Final pot: $21.75

I may rethink the PLO8 part of this plan. It's not just the fact that I was flop-dead beyond belief (I could almost guarantee 2 high cards on the flop if I had A2xx), it's that I really didn't feel like I had a clue what I was doing - you can see some of the posts in the Omaha section.

Someone suggested a different site for PLO8, and I may try that out if I don't have better results at Pokerstars.

Spent most of the day with my brother in Sacramento, so just a short session tonight. Much better results - like, I'd have A2xx and actually get two low cards on the flop. And this happened more than once.

I won $11, which makes my grand total for PLO8 - $0.05. Woo-hoo!!

Just got back from a semi-emergency trip up to Montana to make sure my 91-year old Grandpa is ok (he is). We stayed at his house which has no Internet access, so I didn't get any online play in.

I drove up with my brother who lives in Susanville (about an hour north of Reno), and as is my habit when heading up to his house, I stopped by Reno for a little live poker. Played some $4/$8 at the Grand Sierra Resort (formerly the Reno Hilton). They have an interesting blind structure for that game - both the SB and BB pay $2 (instead of the BB paying $4), and it's only $2 pre-flop. The rest of the streets are normal $4/$8. Anyway, when I played Tuesday night, they had enough people on the list to start a new game, but most of them weren't there. We finally got it started with 5 players (and it filled up pretty quickly after that). My favorite hand of the night was the third one at the new table. I get [As] [Js] in the SB and just check (4 or 5 to the flop). Flop comes all spades. :) Since I'm OOP, I just check to see if anyone else likes the flop - it gets checked around. Turn is another spade. I bet out and everyone folds to the button (really bad player) who raises. I 3-bet and he calls. River is a blank and I bet out again - he raises again. Of course I 3-bet and start the session off with a big hand. I only play for an hour because I have to get up to my brother's house, and by the time I left, it was back to 5 tight players - all the fishies had busted. All in all, finished up $126 - not bad for an hour's play.

I played a couple hours tonight with an even weirder setup - the blinds were still the 2-2 they were before, but players had the option of getting what they called an "Overs" button. The hand plays as normal $4/$8 limit as long as there's at least one player in the hand who doesn't have an Overs button, but once everyone left in the hand has an Overs button, it becomes no-limit. They didn't have enough people to run both a no-limit and $4/$8 game, so I guess this is some kind of compromise for the no-limit players that lets them play no-limit with other no-limit players. Considering the fact that I only went to one showdown (my TPGK got out-kicked), walking away $130 to the good wasn't too bad.

Not too much to report. Live poker is continuing to treat me well, which is probably a good thing with everything happening online. Played $4/$8 for about an hour-and-a-half at The Palace, ran in place for almost the entire night (never up or down more than $30), and then hit a couple of big hands (nut flush and flopped full house) in my very last orbit to book another $100+ session. :)

Well, you learn something new every day. Played a little PLO8 before bed, and only had one interesting hand the entire time. Villian had been raising a lot pre-flop, and since he was a short stack, I figured I could stack him if I get a good flop...

(Converter really messed this one up, so I'll just post the raw hand history)

I thought two pair on a board with only one low card would be pretty good, especially if he had A2xx. Then I ran it through twodimes, and I was actually surprised to see how much of a dog I was after the flop. :(

I've still been playing, but I don't know if I'm going to keep posting every single day. Wednesday and Thursday I decided that I had been running well enough at $4/$8 live recently that it might be time to take a shot at the $6/$12 game at AJ's. First night I finished down about $150, but that's bound to happen when you lose the only two flushes you get all night (first one I had [8d] [9d] and lost to someone who limped with [Td] [2d], and the second one I flopped it with [7c] [8c] and check/folded the turn when another club hit) and the next best hand is 2 pair. The second night started off the same way - at one point I was down around $120 (but $70 of that was lost playing $3/$6 while waiting for a seat to open up), but then I rallied with some good hands that got paid off and walked away $120 to the good. I was down a total of $30 between the two nights, but I'm up $16 if I just look at the $6/$12 results, which is good. There are definitely some better players at this level, but there is still a good share of fish, so I think I'm going to keep playing that level for now (at least when I go to AJ's)

Today I got back to PLO8 - played almost 850 hands. The day started off really strong with this beauty, where villian is reminded of the dangers of a naked low with no high (he did have 2nd NFD, but I had the NFD, so he had no way to win high - while I had 3 cards that would scoop both high and low)

UTG calls, 3 folds, MP3 calls, Hero calls, Button folds, SB raises to $1.5, BB calls, UTG calls, MP3 calls, Hero calls.

Flop: [Th] [6h] [4s] ($7.5, 5 players)
SB bets $1.25, 2 folds, MP3 raises to $3.5, Hero raises to $13.75, SB folds, MP3 calls.

Villian had [Ac] [Jh] [2c] [Kh] and gets counterfeited on the river. :D

The rest of the day went downhill from there. Played a couple of tables at UB, and in the space of 175 hands, I had exactly 3 where I netted more than $1. By the time I left to go watch a basketball game, I was down $18 for the day (after ending that first session up $37.25). Came back from the game, played a couple hundred more hands at UB, and finished up $17.20 for the day. Sometimes it's nice to sit at a table full of short stacks who like to donate. :D

Final pot: $46.6
(Villian had [Ah] [4d] [9h] [Ac])

Even with a pair of Aces (plus strong draw) going up against a set of Aces, I was actually a 57/43 favorite when the money went in...

Happiness is a turn check/raise with the nuts in a 5-handed pot. :D

At AJ's $6/$12 game again, where I had been bouncing back and forth between +$20 and -$80 or so when I get QTo in MP after a couple of limpers. I limp, a couple more limp behind me, and it's 6 to the flop. Flop comes 79J with two clubs. It's checked around to the guy on my left, who bets - everybody but one calls, so it's 5 to the turn. Turn is an offsuit 8, giving me the nuts. I check again, figuring that one of the two people behind me has a T. Sure enough, the button bets, two calls, I check/raise, and the flop bettor calls two cold. River was an offsuit 2 and I got a couple more callers - the button was not happy when she saw that her J-high straight was no good... :)

Isn't AJ's the bomb? Glad to see you are doing well at the 6/12 game. I guess there must be a couple better people in, but I imagine you'll get a fair share of six or seven to a flop just like 3/6. I have to get my money out of Neteller and try that game too.
