Postby Stelvask » Wed May 04, 2005 4:52 am

No reads on the villain.

when he called my raise preflop i was 90% sure he had a PP. when he check called me on the flop i thought i smelled a set and checked the turn, prepared to call a bet on the river, and just hoping he didn't push.

Does anyone raise this river? i doubt it... who folds it?
who bets the turn?

You know... when I'm in the drivers seat I go ahead and bet 2/3 pot on the turn, what happens if an A or K comes on the river and he makes the same lead? I hate to get an over pair cracked, but I hate giving a free card worse, he doesn't have a pair that beats you unless he does have the set and I would totally be worried about Ax [s] . I don't value bet if he calls me the turn no unless a Q falls.

Edit with your stack size i would have pushed at the turn.
Re-edit: I had you confused with the SB and would have lead for 2/3 pot.

Stelvask and I discussed this hand for a bit this morning and we agreed that checking the turn was the best play. Keep in mind stack sizes and pot size, you really can't make a bet other than an all-in. You could, but you would be forced to call a raise anyhow. That said, there is just not enough information for you to determine whether he has a set or not at this point, and pushing where most times, only a set will call you, is simply a reckless play IMHO. The only hand he doesn't want to give free cards to is AKss, as everyother hand he is far ahead or far behind. I take my chances that a) he doesnt have AK, and b) a non-spade non A/K hits river and go ahead and check behind. Obviously the river must be called.
