Ugly JJ

Postby APerfect10 » Thu May 05, 2005 12:00 am

This hand happened earlier tonight and its really bothering me how I played it.

I havent been at the table very long. I've only see 'maniac' play 20 hands or so and he's seeing 70%+ flops, 13% PFR and a 2+ aggression.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

MP1 ($241.75)
MP2 ($26.08)
MP3 ($119.35)
CO =#A500AF(Maniac)/ ($110.6)
APerfect10 ($114.6)
SB ($97.05)
BB ($100)
UTG ($100)
UTG+1 ($98.7)
UTG+2 ($89.3)

Preflop: APerfect10 is Button with [Jd], [Jc]. SB posts a blind of $0.5. UTG posts a blind of $1.
UTG (poster) checks, UTG+1 calls $1, 1 fold, MP1 calls $1, MP2 calls $1, 1 fold, CO =#A500AF(Maniac)/ calls $1, APerfect10 raises to $4, SB (poster) calls $3.50, 1 fold, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls $3, MP1 calls $3, MP2 calls $3, CO =#A500AF(Maniac)/ calls $3.

Flop: ($26) [7s], [Td], [3s] (6 players)
SB bets $3, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 calls $3, Maniac raises to $25

Whats your move? My thoughts are either fold or push. Calling is too passive and gets me no information. Reraising him gets half my stack in and with the turn and river yet to come too many scare cards could hit. An ace, king, queen, or any spade. Another thing to consider is the player that min bet out on the flop. Did he flop a set and is trying to get money into the pot prior to my move or is he on a flush draw? He's a fish therefore I put him either on a flush or straight draw. (It turns out he was on a gutshot, lol)

I really hate JJ...and I think this situation is as difficult as any since there were so many callers..

Thoughts?

And as I type this, maniac loses his 2.5 buyin stack within 30 minutes. Why do these morons seem to get lucky against me?

i think you need to raise more preflop. there's 5 people in the pot in front of you already. you're only making it $3 more for any of them to play. your raise should be at least $7, if not closer to $10. yes, you have position, but you want this heads up if possible. you might not get action, but even then i'ts a free $7 or so.

As it is, you got the worst case scenario. a low card flop with a lot of action in front of you. bottom line, raise more preflop, and this situation goes away. no way should you have gotten 5 callers

As for the flop, i think this is an all in or fold situation. unfortunatly, with this many people in the pot, i think you need to fold and wait for a better spot besides a small overpair to get your money in. I have a feeling some of the other people on the board are going to disagree with me on this though. Still, i'd rather lose $4 folding the best hand than lose $100 holding onto the worst.

calling is terrible, obviously, because it gives far too good odds. raising is dangerous because the SB, or worse yet MP3, could come back over the top.

i'd say cut your $4 loss, accept that you may be folding the best hand, and move on to your next spot (where you'll be raising more i hope).

I concur 100% with Stelvask. Raise more preflop....and fold to that much action in front of you on the flop.
