mega-draw on the turn

Postby mitcheze » Sat May 07, 2005 1:51 pm

1-3 at a casino. real fishy game. lots of bad players. villian in this case is rather weak. he lost two buy ins ($200 each) within five minutes of sitting down, then got lucky and doubled up and then some to about $500. i have him covered.

i am MP1 with [Ad] [Jd] .pot is live-straddled (blind min-raise) i call, as do 5 others including the villian. SB completes and BB checks.

FLOP $38
[9h] [Ts] [Qd]
i bet $40. 1 caller

TURN $118
( [9h] [Ts] [Qd]) [4d]
WHAT IS THE PROPER PLAY HERE?? RHOUND, you were at the table, what are your thoughts on the hand?? will post results later.

If he has KJ you have a problem of course, but I think he has just a jack. Maybe AJ.

I bet pot again.

Yeah i'd bet it again. Hopefully he folds..but if he doesn't you have a ton of outs.

You do have a great draw... but I think villian is going to call you down with any piece of it, I think $75-$90 is the best bet. If you hit the K move in, if you hit the low end of the straight I would still be wary and bet 1/3 pot, if you hit the diamond bet the pot, which is close to putting him in if i did non-caffeine math correct.

well for some reason, i decided to go all in on the turn and was insta-called by KJ. oops. my thinking at the time was that i didn't want to get pushed off the hand without seeing a river, and i figured he would just fold. i was definately out-played here, but i had 10 very live outs going to the river (K of diamonds was in his hand, leaving me 8 diamonds and 2 kings), which brought me a beautiful [8d] for the nut flush.

in talking with seth (aka rhound here in the forum), he explained that i was a 5:1 dog going to the river and it was basically the same as going all in pre-flop with 22 vs. AA. next time when faced with a similar hand i will bet smaller and gauge where i am from there.

what would you guys have done with that draw if you bet the turn and got min-raised? or all-in raised?
