Do you like this little bluff?

Postby DaHitDogg » Mon May 09, 2005 11:59 am

Opponent was a decent sLag who would generally make 3/4 to pot size raises when he had a strong hand. I'm pretty sure he would have led w/ a flush on the river. I smelled weakness on this one. Do you like this bluff? Yes/No, different size or something.

I'm not sure if I would bluff against a pretty Loose player, especially one who's gonna play his TPCK w/ a flush draw and paired board... I try not to bluff TOO much when I play Party, as you'll get WAY too many calling stations and people who just can't let go of their TP...

I like it if... you normal pot the river when you hit your flush and he has seen you do this. I don't like it if you normally value bet less. I wonder if $10 would have the same effect for less money if I do get called.

I made essentially the same bluff today on an unpaired board, and the guy said he laid down a slowplayed set of kings. I had my doubts and then witnessed the way the guy misplays his hands and now have little doubt.

Yes, the play has value, especially against the weak tight, but maybe not a LAG, who thinks his Top Pair Weak Kicker might have a better chance of holding up now that you both have two pair.

The part that I like most about this play is that you found out the opponent is willing to call pot sized value bets on the river with junk. I would take note of that and consider it an $18 investment that is going to live on any time I play him again.

I've given up trying to bluff most people off top pair or better, regardless of how well I've represented a stronger hand. Especially on Party.

If you think he has less than TP, go with a $10 bet, as rdale suggested.
