A 2/4 hand demonstrating the power of PT

Postby Stelvask » Tue May 10, 2005 10:07 am

As i've mentioned before, I spend 95% of my playing time quad tabling. The most difficult part of multi-tables is a major decrease in reads. Instead, i have to rely on poker tracker and now GT+. This hand illustrates exactly why these two are so important

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed)

UTG ($776.75)
Hero ($678.30)
CO ($47.60)
Button ($110.85)
SB ($167.50)
BB ($397)

Preflop: Hero is MP with [Ad], [As].
1 fold, Hero raises to $16, 2 folds, SB calls $14, 1 fold.

Flop: ($36) [8c], [6h], [4h] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $24, SB calls $24.

Turn: ($84) [Kh] (2 players)
SB bets $127.5 (All-In), Hero calls $127.50.

River: ($339) [Ks] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $339

Results in white below:
Hero has Ad As (two pair, aces and kings).
SB has 4c Jc (two pair, kings and fours).
Outcome: Hero wins $339.

Until the turn, i hadn't bothered to look at his PT stats, as there was nothing special or interesting about the hand yet. His push on the turn turn would cause me to tank trying to decide if he had the best hand, and without any sort of read it would be an incredibly difficult call.

So i did the most logical thing i could do without knowing anything about him. I put my mouse over his icon on GT+ (which updates once a minute), and noticed that he had a post flop agression factor of 11. for those of you unfamiliar with PT, an agression factor above 2 is considered aggressive. this was borederline insane. I called without thinking about anything else.

Cost for PT = $50
Cost for GT+ = free
Gain on one hand = $168.50

Moral of the story? if you don't have it, get it.

I think PT gives a thinking player such an advantage that I hardly talk about it to anyone. It's still somewhat of a secret..shhhhhhh
If everybody was able to make a living off of their hobbies the world would be a much better place.

Sadly, GT+ doesn't work on the sites I play.
