Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Well, I am married and I have an arrangement with my wife that I play 4 days a week and other 3 days we spend together going out, etc. This arrangement seems to work fine.
As for calling me a gambler, I never had such a problem, as she sees that I don't spend money on it.

Xas, Roy...SMD

Zmej, I don't spend money on it either. Deposited $200 almost 2 years ago and the bankroll is at $20k and I have cashed out probably close to $10k (most of that going to her). I have no idea where the gambling thing came from as she has never had a problem with me playing in the past, just the amount that I played.

Start off by apologizing for losing it with her. Then try to addres the concerns she has. Explain to her that poker is not illegal (you are in Atlanta, right?). Then work out an arrangement whereby you spend more time with her. She's obv. been thinking about this for awhile and probably has had discussions with friends all leading up to the recent argument with you. I'm assuming you don't mind spending time with her, since you married her and all, so that should be fine. If you want to continue to play tournaments, then explain the time commitment to her. Maybe one day for those, like Saturday or Sunday. As for the gambling problem and wanting you to see a therapist: you obv don't think you have such a problem (I cannot offer any such judgment but have no reason to doubt you on this). I think making the other concessions on time will allay her fears to some extent, and if you continue to keep up your end of the compromise, this fear will disappear in time. If that doesn't work then you may have to stop for a few weeks to demonstrate that you aren't addicted. If that is necessary then stop; do not sneak any sessions in here or there. Basically, just have an adult conversation and work out an arrangement that is satisfactory to both of you.

EDIT: if she is not willing to give up a whole day for you to play tournies, then those are out buddy.

I think you just need to spend more time with her, just discute it and decide on a proper time management. Tell her that it's just a hobby, which turns a bit of profit and it should be fine.

In all seriousness. Play less poker and spend more time with your wife?

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.
