Betting on WSOP 2005

Postby sammax71 » Mon May 16, 2005 4:03 am

Don't know if this will interest anybody out there but there are a few English bookmakers starting to price up on who will be on the final table at this year's WSOP. With so many entrants this year finding a player who reaches the final table may be like looking for a needle in a haystack but some of you might be interested.

The minimum odds you can get on ANY player is 50/1 to make the final table.

There are four firms betting at the moment. They are Victor Chandler, Blue Square, Bet365 and Stan James.

With 6000 entrants his year, throwing darts at a dartboard is more likely to pick the right name, than actually looking at who is playing well. Last year there were 1/3 as many players and still Dan Harrington, and Marcel Luske were the only players that anyone had ever heard of in the final hundred.

I know its your friends and I would do the same thing for a small sum of money, but if they do have 6000 or so people 400:1 is horrible odds. Talk about a large -ev play. I'm not sure I would take any of the top pros only getting 400:1.

Rhound, I think the 400:1 odds are to make the final table, not to win the whole shabang. Or is it shebang...whatever. In which case 400:1 isn't quite so bad.

If I'm wrong and it is 400:1 to win, than that's criminal.

Even if its to make the final table those are still crappy odds, but a little better i guess.
