Of course, it's a Hefeweizen, so it's supposed to be that way, but nevertheless I'm thinking of KingSalami and TightWad and having a good laugh.

Moneyball is not the problem, time is. What the A's have done in the last 5 years has been amazing, take a tiny payroll and consistntly make the playoffs. The key being pitching, they were able to bring the big 3 up and keep them together long enough to make some playoff runs. This year has been rough with injuries and offensive struggles. That combined with losing our two best players again, there isnt reallly much hope. I still think Billy Beane is a genius and one of the best GM's in baseball.

With that said, I am going to be just as happy when the Yankees fail to win another world series with every possible free agent. If they cant get Clemens they arent going to have the pitching to do anything in the playoffs.

the problem with moneyball is that you didn't win a ring, and as soon as the players you invested soo much time in become good they sign somewhere else where they can get more money. thats the thing, everyone who is a a's fan is content with making the playoffs, having a good season, but here in ny it's all about the ring. nothing more or less.

i hope the a's take a total dive so i can stop hearing about all this mioneyball crap. when you have a dynasty off of moneyball come talk to me.

Yes the MoneyBall idea has yet to win a ring but so what. Take a look at what it did with a team with almost no payroll, the A's made the playoffs, 4 or 5 str8 years with a payroll in the bottom 10 in baseball. Winning a ring of course is the ultimate goal and its nice that in NY thats all that matters, but thats easy to say when you have a payroll larger than the bottom 8 teams in baseball combined and every year you can get almost any free agent you want and overpay him so you can outprice the rest of the teams in baseball.

So you may be right that the A's in baseball terms have failed, but in the eyes of their fans they have suceeded. In the last 5 years based each teams definition of sucess the Yankees are a failure and the A's are a sucess.

For a team that is built for winning the World Series it sure has been a while, the Red Sox are the team of the new Millenium, they will soon be refering to the Yankees as the cure of the Steriods.
