Peterson sentenced to death.

Postby TexasKowboy » Mon Dec 13, 2004 5:09 pm

I see where they gave Peterson the death penalty. I am for the death penalty in most cases. But I would feel better about this one if the case wasn't so circumstancel. The prosecution spent the whole trial making Peterson out to be a bad person. But they didn't have a whole lot of “concrete” evidence to show that he committed the crime.

What are ya'll thoughts?

I agree.

I too am for the death penalty. But before we carry it out, lets PROVE beyond any reasonable doubt that he did it.

Then we can hang him.

Man.. sounds like reason enough not to have the death penalty (like here in the UK).

Forgive my ignorance, but is it a state-by-state thing over there (and if so, which ones?), or is it applicable everywhere?

Plenty of people have had posthumous pardons from the hangings we had years ago, but it's a bit late really, innit.

Here in Ohio we have a man in jail for life and they never even found the body of the person they say he killed. Yes it is state by state over here and I believe in Texas (correct me if I am wrong) if three credible witnesses see you do the murder you go straight to death row.

It was circumstantial of course but so are a large amount of murders.
Since this is a poker forum and we love to use odds...what do you think are the odds of this are
1) He is cheating on his wife
2) His wife is pregnant
3) She disappears
4) He can only account for his whereabouts by saying he went fishing
5) Her body turns up VERY close to where he said he was fishing
6) His girlfriend contradicts just about eveything he says at trial and is so convinced that hes guilty (apparently based on things hes told her) that she agrees to wear a wire, and also to record there phone calls for the police.

I could go on and on. From my experience, there is normally much more evidnece that the public never hears for one reason or another.
So what are the odds he didnt do it? Pretty long I would say. She had no enemies. The only other explanation is that someone framed him and knew exactly where he would be fishing. He was in the middle of the ocean. Maybe they bugged his car and put a tracking device on his boat and then studied patterns of ocena current so they would know where to leave the body?

iceman,

Probably better than 99.9% hes guilty.
BUT, use this analogy:

If I told u to bet me a dollar and pick a number between 1 and 1,000 that I would give u 10,000 dollars as long as the number u picked doesnt match the one I will pick at random.
Would u bet? Of course u would.

Now if I made same offer, but u had to bet your life instead of a dollar..........?

Still for the death penalty in general though. I just want it used with caution.

Sounds like there was a weighty amount of circumstantial there.. Was the result ever in doubt?

I think the death penalty is just too final per se. If a mistake is made (and they have been shown to) then it's irrevocable.

I'm not a bleeding heart liberal, but I'm not quite that right wing, either.

Perhaps surprisingly, I think national service and some form of corporal punishment should be re-introduced into the UK, to curb the teeming hordes of aggro street urchins with no prospects, plenty to prove and nothing to lose that roam around our land. They are a blight upon this country's existence and they were allowed to go off the rails by their weak parents and a schooling system that empowers kids to bully teachers with little or no comeback.
</rant>

..I don't quite know where that came from..

If there was half the evidence against me that there was OJ the trial would have lasted less than a week before I was found guilty. The OJ vs Peterson trial shows that if you can afford better lawyers you have a much better odds of being found innocent. But in the end no matter how you act here we will all be judged and sentanced accordingly.

Dec. 13, 2000 at 11:20 AM they escaped From John Connally Unit, a maximum-security prison located just outside of Kenedy, Texas. For years Kenedy was known as “Six Shooter Junction.”

On Dec 24, Christmas Eve, at around 6:30 pm they shot and killed Officer Aubrey Hawkins, a 29-year-old rookie cop who had been with the Irving Police Department.

On Jan 22, 2001 4 of the imates were captured and one commetted suicide in Woodland Park, Co.

On Jan 23, 2001 the last 2 were caputred in Colorado Springs, Co.

At this time 4 are on Death row I am not sure when the trial for the last 2 is set for nor what the hold up is.

I do not live far from Kenedy, Tx and it was the night of the escape that convinced my Brother who was a state trooper at the time to retire. He said as he was standing on the side of a country road conducting a road block searcing every vehicle that travled into Goliad County. That if the Texas 7 happen to be in one of the vehicles that they were stopping he and his partner were sitting ducks.

Why were they sitting ducks? Because they were out on the side of the road from 3pm till 7 am the next morning. It was around 20 degrees farinhite that night with a strong wet north wind. If you have ever been in south centeral Texas when it is in the 20's you will know how cold it was. They couldn't draw down on every vehicle that pulled up. Most of the vehicles were occupied by Farmer Brown or Aunt Bea.

He knew the dangers of law enforcement his whole 30 year carear. But for some reason he came face to face with it that night.

I was down in the Rio Grand Valley working on a drug case. We loaded up and headed for San Antonio where everyone in law enforcement believed they were headed. We got there but a day to late. After they left San Antonio I went back to the valley and was not involved in the case after that.

Enough history for one day.
