Fun with KQ

Postby Kalle » Fri May 20, 2005 4:43 pm

I was semi-tilting before this hand. Some orbits earlier I raised all in with a straight flush draw was called by ace high and missed all my outs and lost a decent pot. Table probably views me as semi-lag.

I didn't think the shortstack had a hand and I actually thought I was going to be the only caller preflop. On turn I put the other shortstack on a Kx or slowplayed set and I thought button had Kx or a draw. I didnt put any of them on AK. I dont know why I didnt bet the turn - I think I wanted to see what happened. What do you think?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed)

MP ($304)
CO ($106)
Button ($585.50)
SB ($25)
BB ($160)
Hero ($375.90)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Kd], [Qs].
Hero calls $4, MP calls $4, CO calls $4, Button calls $4, SB raises to $25, 1 fold, Hero calls $21, MP calls $21, CO calls $21, Button calls $21.

Flop: ($129) [2d], [7s], [6h] (5 players)
Hero checks, MP checks, CO checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($129) [Kh] (5 players)
Hero checks, MP checks, CO bets $81 (All-In), Button calls $81, Hero raises to $350.9,

Not many responses. The hand can not have been as interesting as I thought.

Button thought for a long time and I started thinking that I would look stupid if I didnt have CO beat.
Button finally made the correct call with 98h. SB had Q9 and CO had K8. A 5 hit on river.

I limp pre-flop and fold to the raise. How weak-tight am I?! :)

I don't like raising out of position with marginal hands. And I don't like calling with a marginal hand with 3 people behind me still to act on this and every other street.

I the horrid situation on the turn, I think the check-raise is good - someone's very likely to bet here. Once button called, with MP still unaccounted for, I'd probably fold - but clearly you played it much better than that (and got unlucky that button had a big enough draw to call).

Unfortunate the guy was too short stacked to fold.

I limp KQo almost all the time, there has to be a special reason to raise it at the majority of the tables I play. It is probably getting raised about 15-20% of the time and it is all position raises at tighter tables. KQs I play just about the same as I think I was losing money to raising it and AKs catching a draw and playing a bigger pot than intended.
