After the BTP tourney...

Postby Kalle » Sun May 22, 2005 6:13 pm

I have some exams soon and I will probably not be posting much here the next couple of weeks

Noone else is posting in this forum. BORING.

During the BTP tourney I drank my share of vodka. After that I decided to play some 2/4NL shorthanded. Great idea. I have some rules when I play poker. Never play drunk and never play cash game after you busted out of a tourney...

I had played around 20 hands when this hand came up. I was drunk, still am. There are not many thoughts behind the hand. I have played with the raiser before. He is decent and aggressive. I had a good starting hand and wanted to win the pot... What I didnt like was that if I my bluff succeeded I would win $130. If I didnt succeed I would lose $300. And metagame doesnt apply. I wasnt going to stay at the table after the hand.

There was absoulutely no plan, or actually there was, but it changed a lot during the hand. I called preflop only to see if I could flop something. I called the flop bet because I "hoped" I had the best hand and I had a backdoor Q high flush draw (I actually thought that). I checkraised the turn because he looked weak and because I probably didnt have the best hand, and I said to myself that I wasnt going to bet the river if called. I bet the river because I knew I didnt have the best hand (he must have had some kind of overpair), I wanted him to fold, he is not a bad player and it was the only way I could win the hand. After I bet I realized that I only had $76 left and that it would look very stupid if he reraised and I folded.

Sometimes I make plays like this sober. Is it a stupid play?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed)

MP ($281.60)
CO ($610.15)
Button ($105.20)
Hero ($398.15)
BB ($320)
UTG ($394)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [As], [Qh].
2 folds, CO raises to $16, 1 fold, Hero calls $14, 1 fold.

Flop: ($36) [6h], [3h], [7d] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $20, Hero calls $20.

Turn: ($76) [9s] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $30, Hero raises to $90, CO calls $60.

River: ($256) [4c] (2 players)
Hero bets $196

Lol. I just went through the hand. I didnt even notice that there were four to a straight on river during the hand. I dont know if that changes anything

I'm not a big SH player, thus why I don't post a lot in this section, but man, that seems like an awfully good way to piss away $400 to me... What were you trying to represent w/ the check/call, check/raise line... trips...? That's really the only hand he should have been afraid of, if he had anything... If I wanted to steal, I probably would've bet the flop... DEFINITELY wouldn't have pushed the river, after he called your checkraise... He just doesn't seem like he's wanting to get away from the hand, whatever it is that he has... I'm sure his nuts shriveled a little when the 4th straight card hit the river, but I still think he would've called w/ aces or kings...

BTW... if he had As or Ks, I don't like the way he played it either... I would've pushed the turn on a seemingly harmless board...

I hate this play sober or drunk... you will get called by JJ TT too often for it to profitable. UNLESS... you know he is a weak player and willing to let a middle pair go, and possibly a big pair too, then you are briliant for shoving it in.

I haven't had anything interesting happen lately, or I would be posting more. I will try to pick out one of my misplays from Thursday to share, if I posted them all it would bury the server.

I woulda check-raised the flop... probably. He made a pussy pet, Looks like overs to me. Again, though, I don't have your read. But yeah, I think if you were gonna raise that river, you should have pushed all in. Not doing so sort of made you look weak.
Partake in my bollocks, bloody chav!

I think if you are going to play drunk, play much smaller stakes, as you are most likely going to try to do fun moves. They offer a fine .01/.02 for you to burn off the chips slower.

I agree that this is an excellent way to loose $400. And if I want to make fun moves / play monkey poker, it will be less expensive at much lower limits (but the moves will work less frequently there). This was a stupid hand really.

He thought for a while, requested time, then folded.
