biggest pot in recent history, still have no clue how i won

Postby MBuckler » Sun May 22, 2005 7:59 pm

.1/.25 NL on stars, my opponents and i all have relatively full stacks
i get [Qs][Qc] utg and raise to $1
utg +2 calls, utg +3 reraises to $3
CO calls, i call utg+2 calls
flop comes [Ts][6c][5d]
i know im gonna get a lot of flack for this, but i check, utg+2 checks, utg+3 bets $3.25 into a pot of $13.35
CO folds
i know a lot of you guys are gonna say i should raise here, and i agree, still not quite sure why i didnt
any way, i call along with utg+2
turn brings [3d] i check so does utg+2, utg +3 bets $3.50, i call, utg +2 makes it $10 and both utg+3 and i call
river is [9h]
and it checks around
results in white
utg+2 shows JdTc, utg+3 mucks Th7c
i drag a $49.55 pot with one pair, queens

looking back on this hand now, i really have no idea how i won considering how badly i think i played it

redlands... you were beggin to give this hand away, being so passive... You should've raised the flop, raised the turn...

I'm gonna agree with MVP.

his flop play screams of weakness - though as it turns out he had a very poorly played overpair. but when he bets $3 into a $13 pot, you need to raise here - at least another $10 on top of it. Also, when UTG +2 check raises on that turn, you need to re-evaluate your holding in the hand. more often than not, this check raise is going to tell you that you're beat.

As it turns out, your passive play may have won you a larger pot than you would normally get, but in general, playing a strong overpair this passively is going to cost you.

Raise the flop or fold to the check raise on the turn.

"...UTG+3 RE-raises with T[h]7[c] ..."???

Sheesh, I thought the games I play at the $0.02 level were the fishiest.

But if this was at the $0.02 level, at showdown, UTG+3 would of shown 3[s]9[c] to take down the pot. And the player with Q[s]Q[c] would be tearing his hair out.
