B&M Pocket K's

Postby ynotduts » Thu May 26, 2005 10:51 am

I was a local card room and it was just my second hand so I didn't have a read on anyone. The game was 2-5 NLHE:

Hero is on the BB (chip stack: $165). Hero gets dealt Kh Ks. All 7 players at the table call and Hero raises to $30. UTG (chip stack: $195) calls and everyone else folds. Flop comes down 4c Kc 10c.

Hero Checks
UTG bets $60
Here bets $130 (all in)
UTG calls $70

UTG turns over and shows Qc 10s.

Turn: 6c
River: 7c

UTG wins w/ Q high flush......

Is this as poor of a play as I see it to be? Was he a complete moron to be calling a $25 raise preflop with Q 10 off? Should I have bet it differently? I'm still fuming over this idiot's preflop raise call!
Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions!

Welcome to poker....

This is a tough beat, but not much you can do about it, you got it in with the best of it, forced a huge error and he got lucky. Off the top of my head you were probably about a 75-80% favorite at the flop over two cards and got bit. I lost one this week as a 98% favorite at the flop when the money went in, it happens, as it is a game of chance. The skill in this game is putting the money in when ahead like this, against people that will call. B&M people make penny poker plays for larger sums of cash, I don't really understand the mentality but accept it as one of the glorious truths of the game.

Not that it would have probably changed anything but leading at the flop for all in might have been the play, if he pushes you call.
