Preflop decision

Postby briachek » Thu May 26, 2005 11:23 am

I'm always afraid of being dominated by better aces and such. Not much of a read on villain except I haven't seen him get out of line.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.5 BB (10 handed)

MP1 ($44.76)
MP2 ($15.2)
MP3 ($51.3)
CO ($34)
Button ($76.5)
SB ($30.55)
BB ($66.85)
Hero ($52.35)
UTG+1 ($28.4)
UTG+2 ($92.7)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Ah], [Jh]. CO posts a blind of $0.5.
Hero calls $0.50, 5 folds, CO (poster) checks, Button raises to $2, SB calls $1.75, 1 fold, Hero folds, CO calls $1.50.

Flop: ($7) [8h], [Kh], [6h] (3 players)
SB checks, CO bets $5, Button calls $5, SB folds.

Turn: ($17) [5d] (2 players)
CO bets $5, Button calls $5.

River: ($27) [3s] (2 players)
CO bets $5, Button calls $5.

Final Pot: $37

Results in white below:
CO has Kd 6d (two pair, kings and sixes).
Button has Tc Th (one pair, tens).
Outcome: CO wins $37.

I know I'm letting the flop influence my thinking here but do you call the raise there? Do you even try to limp utg with AJs?

I probably won't limp UTG w/ AJ, and definitely won't play it for a raise, as you have to put the raiser, plus the caller, on something that has you beat...

The flop DEFINITELY sucks, but if you're a good player, you're gonna fold a lot more good hands than you're gonna actually see... How many times have you laid down 95o, and had 995 flop, or some other ridiculous thing... The hardest thing about NL poker most times is to stay patient and disciplined... You played it right...
