What is Sweden doing about the suffering in Darfur?

Everything from "Whats the best place to get a sandwich at Bellagio?" to "Damn, Shana Hiatt is FINE!".

I can say the same thing about social security. When it was started, the life expectancy was (Im guessing here) around 70. It was designed to help people in the last few years fo their lives. Now that life expectancies are in the late 80's, does anyone wonder why SS is going broke? It wasnt meant to pay people for 20+ years. It also needs serious revamping.[/quote]

Off topic and irrelevant and please explain that I'm wrong if I am but isn't it the case that there actually is nothing wrong with Social Security right now. That the government (Bush and all) tried to change it to lace their pockets and the pockets of their friends. I read a few articles stating there was actually nothing wrong with it a year ago when Bush was making the rounds. Others with more knowledge can't refute or acknowledge my statement.

Ant, the reason you come across as a hard-right apologist is that you make sweeping claims about "the left" and "the socialist left" and so on. And your comments simply do not relate to anything that Democrats and others who support Social Security (or whatever the topic) actually believe. Thus, it comes across that you seem to be getting your beliefs about what "the left" believes -- not from actual conversations with people to your left, but from hanging around too much with hard-right-wing crazy conspiracy types.

I support social security, and none of your sweeping attacks on "the left" do anything to address the reasons why I support it. None of your arguments do anything to touch what Nortonesque said above, either. You're arguing against straw men who were created by right-wing blowhards like Rush Limbaugh. Either you listen to Limbaugh and his ilk, or you get most of your political information from people who do ... at least, that's what comes across from your posts.

If you want to know what people to your left think about Social Security, why not ask us?

.........

Stony, I had not taken seriously Ice's provocations to you. Re-reading them, I understand how you got pissed off. I'm glad you agree with me that it's better to remain above the fray than descend into insults, when possible ... but it's not always possible.
