TPGK vs backdoor flush, 200NL

Postby Smokin'Al » Sun May 29, 2005 2:38 pm

6 handed Party 200NL.

Hero has $320 in BB and [Ks][Qh]. UTG limps, Villain ($230) raises to $8 from cut-off.

Villain is LAG: 35/8, AF 8 (11/2/4), over 400 hands. He has always followed through on the flop, at least against 1 opponent. Hero calls, UTG calls. Villain certainly doesn't need a premium hand to raise/bet the flop, but has been seen to check/fold turn/river.

Flop [Kh][3d][7h], 3 way $25 pot. Hero checks (with the intention of check raising). It's checked round.

Turn [7d]. Hero bets $10, UTG folds, villain raises to $35. A bet from the BB after the checked flop could be a steal, so the raise from villain could be a resteal. Hero calls.

River [Td], $95 pot, completing the backdoor flush. Hero checks, Villain bets $85. Hero...

Hero... folds... villian is a LAG, so his PF raise could mean nothing... I'm assuming he doesn't have a King, or he would've bet it... Honestly, there's a pretty good chance you're ahead, but any 7, 2 diamonds, 2pr, basically everything but Kweak kicker and QQ and JJ have you beat... I would fold and wait for a better time to take him out... But, then again, I have been known to be a little tight... If I was planning on calling that river, I probably would've bet it instead of checking...

I dont like your $10 turn bet much. I would rather check again and check raise if he bets. I think you have to fold the river since you really have no idea of what he has.

Aren't you in a pickle for not betting the flop and betting the turn proper?

I would give up and estimate that I'm ahead here only 20% of the time. The guy would have to have a "Blufftastic!!!" note for me to call.

Ive tried bluffs like this too many times in the past with bad results. People just suck and call too much with weak hands (like this one).

Thats why I win so much when I just keep pounding them with my good hands. I always wonder how they keep calling, but they keep doing it. I gave up on these typ of bluffs long ago.

It will work against a tight solid player (or weak tight player), but against 80% of players its spewing chips.
