Aces on a HORRIBLE board...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:20 am

So, I'm playin at the insane 1/2NL B&M game by my house... the buyin is $100 (I know that sucks), and I've got about $450... I just moved to a different table to watch the Heat game while playing (Goddamn Detroit)... About 10 minutes later, I get involved w/ Villian, who seems to me like the normal B&M bozo... Playin basically any K, any A, any 2 soooted cards... But, he must've gotten lucky or somethin earlier, cause he had close to $600...

Limped around to me in LP... I'm dealt [Ad] [Ac] ... I raise to $17 (a mild raise in this nutjob of a place) and get 2 callers...

Pot is about $60 ... FLOP [5s] [6s] [7h] ... YUCK... Checked around to me... I bet $50... EP (villian) calls... MP folds...

Pot is about $160 ... TURN [8s] ... DOUBLE YUCK... Villian thinks for a minute, then bets $250...

His big overbet screamed like it didn't want to be called, but there were like a zillion cards he could have that beat me... I asked him if I folded would he show, and he said "no", which definitely put him in the dickhead column in my book, and made me want to call him even more... But, I wimped out and folded...

Was this a good fold...? This seems to happen to me about once every time I play live... I get the feeling I'm getting bluffed off my hand when some scare cards come on the board...

I think its a good fold. If he's that much of a bozo, you will get better chances to get his money. I think he made the straight and wants to make sure you don't draw to the 4 card flush. As the cliche goes, if you never get bluffed, you are calling too much. Good players get bluffed occasionally, ect.

Yeah, I think you played the hand just right. I don't think I could even call that overbet holding As. So, he calls a raise to more than 8xBB with K4o?? then another $60 to the open straight (if one gives him credit for that draw).

I think you have to make 'em pay until they make the draw against all odds, then give them nothing more.

The important thing at this kind of game is not to allow the insanity of others to seduce you into your own insanities. Patience pays big in this kind of game, though (bear in mind they'll still draw to a flush when you have a made boat, etc.).
