Have tyou seen the DVD Box Set of Firefly? (the Joss Wheeldon post-Buffy sci-fi/western series that Fox stupidly canned after 14 episodes).
You can pick up the whole series for like $20...

I also assume you've seen Heroes?

My kids live off the Studio Gibli/Miyazaki stuff (much better then Disney) - Howl's Moving Castle is pretty good and fairly adult-themed though the kids also love My Neigbour Totoro and Kiki Delivery Service (these last two are for kids only really).

As for slighly more unusual 'indy' movies I'd recommend:

Once Were Warriors (you'll never be able to watch the Star Wars stormtroopers in the same way again)

The Unbelievable Truth (the murdered Adrienne Shelley's first Hal Hartley movie)

Fukcing Amal (Lucas Moodyson's breakthru movie - I'll bet it's called 'Finding Amal' or something else like for the US market)

The movie by the guy who stars in Scrubs (? Zach Brachs) was also pretty decent as I recall.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

I didn't like Garden State, although basically all of my friends did.
