Monthly Checkup?

Postby Stoneburg » Wed Jun 01, 2005 2:03 pm

Decided just the other day to move up to $50 "permanently". I have been playing by a set of rules that dictates a certain amount of money on my account before I go up to a new level but decided that it was time to break that rule. Quite simply I withdraw way too much money to ever be able to move up at my current pace by following those rules.

Anyway, May was a decent month even though I played way too little. When I did play I tried to improve my game though and I think it at least wasn't completely without success. I only played 7k Texas hands this month but that's partly because I've been playing more and more Omaha 8, and there's also a lot of SnG's and MTT's that aren't included.

So, what am I doing wrong? What should I be working on according to these stats? Any obvious leaks I am not seeing? Should I stay at $50 or go back down (been doing good so far)?

I've also done the Core/Marinal/Junk Filter things that is described in the PT tutorials (boy was that helpful) and I'm extremely happy with those results in May.
Core: +$228.83
Marginal: +$107.09
Junk:+$25.04

I used to have a 5% junk leak, now I am making money off the junk hands. That is 100% thanks to that guide. My profit from marginal hands has also gone up a lot due to it :) I put a lot of value in the advice that I read on this board, a lot, and any and all help is appreciated :D

Three points that I question:

1. VP$IP. It seems a little high. As you said, with passive tables I guess it is ok but I've been trying to tighten up more lately and it hasn't really brought this down with more than one point. Of course I've been playing fewer tables (usually just two as opposed to three) but I wonder if a lower VP$IP would mean a higher BB/100 or not.

2. Aggression. I am still too passive I think. 2.83 on the flop seems low! I have been looking to increase this but I haven't found more opportunities in the hands where I am comfortable betting. I think I recall Iceman having 4 or 5 aggression on the flop, even if I am rated as UA this just seems pathetically low by comparison.

3. UTG+1. I play almost 50% more hands from UTG+1 than I do from UTG. Somehow I must have managed to convince myself to loosen up as soon as I take even one step away from that dreaded position. I can only assume there is a direct correlation to this being the only position I lose money from. I will try to get the VP$IP here down much closer to the UTG numbers.

I have been getting some nice cards so far at $50 so those stats are hardly fair, hopefully they won't be much lower than the BB/100 I am used to from $20 by the end of the month when things start to even out.
