KK play - who calls here?

Postby HopyMSU » Thu Jun 02, 2005 6:07 am

Only a few hands in at this table, so I don't have much of a read on anyone. Who makes the call on the flop? I couldn't think of a hand that had me beat other than AA at this point that UTG would play like that. What do you put him on?

Party Poker Pot-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (10 handed)

Hopy ($200)
SB ($247.33)
BB ($241)
UTG ($241.6)
UTG+1 ($36.6)
UTG+2 ($159.91)
MP1 ($44.02)
MP2 ($97)
MP3 ($98)
CO ($201.75)

Preflop: Hopy is Button with [Kc], [Kh]. SB posts a blind of $1.
UTG raises to $7, 2 folds, MP1 calls $7, 3 folds, Hopy raises to $20, 2 folds, UTG calls $13, MP1 calls $13.

Flop: ($63) [5c], [2s], [3h] (3 players)
UTG checks, MP1 calls $24.02 (All-In), Hopy raises to $60, UTG calls $221.60 (All-In), Hopy ???

I agree with the previous posters and to be honest it wouldn't surprise me if UTG has AK and is "semibluffing" his gutshot and overcard(s). Even though QQ and AA seem most likely (with QQ being more likely than AA based on preflop action).

About as automatic of a call as it gets. Sure you can be beat, but he could easily have Q's-10s here.

Most people will reraise again with AA and want to get all the money in before the flop. I would do that most of the time, and with that much money in the pot I don't mind if KK/QQ fold. That said, I would go all in on the flop, and take my chance he has AA. That's why you have a bankroll.

Preflop I would raise more. About 3-4x raise with a raiser is ok, but with a caller after that you have to raise more, 4-5x.
