AA play - that worked or did it?

Postby Jarren » Thu Jun 02, 2005 10:17 am

OK
so I have been playing at this table for about an hour and playing tight and solid. $50 buy in.

So I get AA and I haven't shown any hands. I am in MP and I limp.

It folds around to the Big Blind
I have $48 he has $37.

I don't know why I limped, but I did. Flop comes 10h 3d 7c

Now I sat and thought and decided this guy is in the big blind, he isn't going to call a bet unless he has 3- 7 or 10+a big card, 10-3, or got lucky and hit a set of 3's. So if he isn't going to call a bet anyway and he can't put me on AA (as I am very aggressive normally)....

I pushed all in. Now I fully expected either a fold or getting called with 73, but I figured what the heck, maybe I will look like I am buying the pot and he will call with a weak 10 or something.

he called...
results to follow
(sorry I am horrible about saving hand histories and I am at work)

anyone else try something like this? I am just curious. I am normally not "mr. fancy play" or anything but I thought this hand deserved a post about it.

To be honest I think that is the absolutely worst way possible to play AA. It's just insanely bad and stupid and without some specific meta game going on there is just no excuse.

Unless you're up against morons you won't be called by a hand you can beat. The only hands that should call in that situation are sets and possibly two-pairs. This is the perfect way to go broke in an *unraised pot* and I see idiots do this pretty often. In fact, if I was the BB I would probably put you on AA/KK when you did it (and put a not so flattering note on you).

This just violates two cardinal rules I try to play by:
Never slowplay AA
Never go broke in an unraised pot

OH I don't disagree at all with you

The table was folding to any raise pre-flop, part of the reason I think I limped. But to be honest I never do that without the intent to limp/re-raise.

I can't say why I played this hand like I did. And I fully expect to be blasted for doing it.
