He's not gonna bluff me off my hand.. WHOOPS...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Fri Jun 03, 2005 12:57 am

He's got the nut straight and the 2nd nut flush draw... Why the hell would he push there...? Looking back, I guess it was a bad call by me, but it just seemed like such a steal... If I was afraid of ANY hand, it was AK more than Q10... Funny thing is, if he would've minraised, I probably would've folded, fearing the straight or higher 2pr...

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (9 handed)

MP3 ($103.40)
CO ($94.50)
Button ($128.55)
Hero ($118.65)
BB ($43.35)
UTG ($56.45)
UTG+1 ($45.50)
MP1 ($149.90)
MP2 ($99)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Js], [Ac].
UTG calls $1, UTG+1 calls $1, 3 folds, CO calls $1, Button calls $1, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($6) [Jc], [8h], [Ah] (6 players)
Hero bets $5, BB folds, UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, CO folds, Button calls $5.

Turn: ($16) [Ks] (2 players)
Hero bets $12, Button raises to $122.55, Hero calls $100.65 (All-In).

River: ($251.20) [Ad] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $251.20

Results in white below:
Hero has Js Ac (full house, aces full of jacks).
Button has Th Qh (straight, ace high).
Outcome: Hero wins $241.30. Button wins $9.89.

So, anyways, he goes on this rant for like an hour about how horrible a player I am, how my mom sews socks in hell, and yada yada yada... I just agreed mostly, but threw in "that's why I don't play Q10..." with a little smiley... What a dick... So, anyways, he reloads and I guess I tilted him, cause he lost that too about 3 hands later... :D

that's a tough one. I don't see raises like that often. I might have called, depending on a read.

Sounds like a muppet...Just write notes on him so next time you know ;-)

Yeah, when I first saw the hand, my first thought was also AK, although it's unusual. I think you'll also be up against something like K8 pretty often here, too. QT is more logical than it looks at first glance, too.

Particularly without a read, I don't think it's a horrible call. Even if it is QT, you've got 4 outs. Obviously not really the position you want to be in, but I don't see you as even being behind all that much on that bet. AK is actually more nightmarish for your hand than QT, since youre outs are reduced to 2.

I don't know, maybe one does need to lay it down, but I'd also have trouble doing it. It's a bet that really screams, "I don't want to be called."

This is the reason I DO play NL cash games. So I can push all in with a monster and watch them try to pick off what they think is a bluff.

So, Ice... if you were in my position... you would've folded there...? I know you're a good player, and use reverse psychology on people (ie... pushing so I think it's a bluff when it's really not), but this guy wasn't you... Not by a 100000 miles... I had been sitting with him for about an hour, and, at best, I could say that he was an okay straightforward player...This was the first "tricky" thing I had seen him do since I sat down...

Pushing with the nuts is about as straight forward as it gets.
