KK on the Button

Postby Sunbob » Sun Jun 05, 2005 9:44 pm

$10 NL on UB. This is my first orbit so I don't have much of a read on the table, except the huge stack to my immediate right has won a big pot with pocket sixes when he busted AA with a river 6. I'm watching to see if he is just a Bozo on a lucky streak. The first hand I play is:

I'm on the button with [Kd] [Kh] . MP($5.80)raises to $.35 and huge stack ($47.43) called. I raised $1.55 to isolate MP and SB ($4.10) calls as does MP and Huge Stack. (Damn, I got three callers). :x

Flop comes: [4s] [4c] [Qs] . SB checks, MP checks, and HugeStack bets $2.50.

What do you do? I'll post my play later.

I would reraise. If he reraise you again, maybe all in, or call you, i think you are beat. In that case, pray for a king at turn or check-fold would be a prudent move.

That is what i think.

I think this one is pretty easy, I'm all-in. The only read on this player is that he is a bad player. Pretty good chance he has the Q maybe AQ hopefully KQ, if he is a bad enough player to call you with A4 then you are going to have to pay him off. If he had QQ he would have reraised. I think 95% you are ahead here.

SunBob didnt mention he was a bad player. He only said he caught a 6 in the river from someone else with AA.

You might be right, Rhound... but remember they also get great hands and they get lucky. I dont think that pushin against a bad player always is a good thing, since they are so many that can make your BR go down.

I would wait for a better spot...

i'm gonna agree with kenny.

with the hefty reraise, if anyones in there with a 4, then they'll be broke soon anyways.

If someone has QQ, then that's just plain old bad luck.

I don't think the big stack is holding a 4 here though, more than likely he's on some sort of queen.

I push here feeling confident that i have the best hand.

Alex, well yes the bad players do get good cards too, but what are you afraid of here? The only monsters you are behind is AA or QQ, hard to see in these small limit games, that he is going to just call with AA or QQ. What better situation are you looking for? If he has just a Q he is drawing to at best 5 outs and this is only for AQ, KQ and lower is drawing to two outs. You are going to be a 80% or 92% favortite the majority of the time, this is about as good as it gets.

Well, I am glad that you guys agree with my play. I didn't think huge stack had a 4 but was concerned about maybe one of the others so I went all-in for $8.15 hoping to push out the other two callers. They folded and Huge stack called. Now I was concerned.

The [4h] came on the turn and [2s] on the river. Huge Stack mucked [Qd] [7d] and I pulled in a $21.50 pot.

I posted this because after the fact I started questioning my play. My ring game has been pretty bad lately and I see this as more of a tournament move. It worked this time and I appreciate the feedback. Maybe I'm not as bad as I think sometimes.

When you have a hand like KK, the Q44 flop is about the best flop you can get. Only QQ or a 4 beat you, unless there's an AA and you are toast. It's actually better than a small rainbow flop imo, because there are fewer sets that beat you, and if someone has KQ/AQ you could make some money.

You just can't see too many monsters out there and have to go with it. Good luck.

Poker2006 makes a really good point, in a raised pot I would rather see this flop than 1074, with this flop there are so many ways to have your opponant completely dominated, like drawing to 2 outs. Well played sunbob.
