Did he want me to call or not?

Postby Magz » Mon Jun 06, 2005 4:08 am

UB 50$
The converter is giving the wrong numbers so I'll do this by hand. (any tips here)

Villain was rather new to the table and did not stick out in any way.
I had been delt bad cards for a long time so I was not involved in many hands since the time he sat down.
we both had like 63$

folded to CO where villain limps
I was in SB with [4h] [3c] so I complete

Flop is: [6s] [7s] [5h]

I check
Villain bets 1$
I raise 2$
Villain reraises 63$ all in.

Call or fold? Is he trying to make me fold, or does he infact have a higher straight?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yep, I called and he showed me 89 unsuited and took the 135$ to go.

Since that hand hand completed my 3 buy in loss for the evening I actually started to doubt my judgement, should I have folded?

well thx Alex for putting my mind at ease;)

You are 53-47 fav if he has 54s for the open-end straight flush draw.

You are 48-52 dog if he has A8s for the open ender with nut flush draw.

With that kind of all-in, I'd bet he has both draws working (open-ended with flush draw) if he doesn't already have the straight.

So you are either dead or a coinflip unless he'd make that bet with a set (which is a bit insane against the blind on that flop). Although, I guess 88 is possible, which makes you 2:1 fav.

Thx for the input MVP.

The reason for the check was that I gambled some, sure if a spade came and he got all happy, then I was going to fold, but I was willing to take that chance hoping that he will hit something on the turn, at this point I didn't feel that I would be called with a pot sized bet since he propably didn't hit anything.( perhaps A 7 suited at best) So I took my chances risking the 1.75$ win with that straight in order to get payed off more.

Too greedy or worth the shot?

Span... if you had the high end, you might wanna gamble a little, hoping he hits 2pr or a draw... But, with the low end, there's like a million cards that are scare cards... I mean, you're afraid of 11 spades, 3 eights, 3 nines, 2 fours, the board pairing... I'd rather win a small pot right there than lose a large pot later...

I don't mind gambling so much, but you gotta pick your spots where someone can hit a card to stay in the hand, and this just goesn't seem like one of those times to me...
