Ok. 2.5K losing streak. I am starting to desperate now.....

Postby AlexMR » Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:20 pm

Now this is disturbing:

Today stats:
600 hands.
16.25VP$IP
WtSD 18%
W$SD 17.25%
Down 110.

I havent been dealt aces or kings. Only one pair orf queens.

All Losing streak stats:

2.5K hands.
18 %VP$IP
Went to SD 26%
W$SD 39%
Amount lost: 215.

In this 2.5K hands I have been dealt aces 2 times. 4 times kings.

Of the 110 I am down today, about 100 have been outdrawns all ins with the total nutz. If not the nuts, i t is almost, lke the following:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (6 max, 5 handed)

Button ($38.1)
SB ($16.1)
Hero ($21.35)
UTG ($56.5)
MP ($0)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [7d], [Td]. SB posts a blind of $0.1.
1 fold, Button calls $0.25, SB (poster) completes, Hero checks.

Flop: ($0.75) [9h], [8d], [Jc] (4 players)
SB bets $3, Hero raises to $6, Button folds, SB raises to $9, Hero calls $15.10 (All-In), SB calls $6.85 (All-In).

Turn: ($37.70) [7h] (3 players, 2 all-in)

River: ($37.70) [9d] (3 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: $37.70

Results in white below:
SB has 9c 8h (full house, nines full of eights).
Hero has 7d Td (straight, jack high).
MP has (straight, jack high).
Outcome: SB wins $32.45. Hero wins $5.25.

I was kind of desperate a couple hours ago and was playing bad but now I am OK, but I think I am starting to lose confidence. I would like a logical explanation to all this. It is too much. Way too much. Have anyone had a losing streak for so long?? 2.5K hands? It just seems that everyone outdraw me and if I try to draw I neever hit. I have had pocket pairs 30 times today and only one turn into set (it was a sweet full in this case). Number are not going the right way.

Yes, I have experienced bad runs in excess of 2,500 hands. I'm kind of at the tail end of a bad run now but I seem to be coming out of it by playing some games that I normally dont (short-handed instead of full ring at lower stakes). I remember reading books/internet posts about people running bad for months in the live game and thought they were crazy until I started to experience this kind of crap myself. Playing online has really enlightened me because now I know a bad run of 2,500+ hands is not only possible, but probable if you play every day. If you are playing tightly ( I generally do) there is really nothing you can do except continue to wait for the proper hands, position and situation. If you try to push your marginal hands too hard you will end up even more frustrated with higher variance.

Here's what I am learning to do when running badly

1) take a total break from poker for at least a week - do something totally non-poker related...exercise, hang out with non poker playing friends, get laid

2) try some new games...limit poker at lower stakes can be fun, Omaha is cool because you can play like a robot and win...7-stud is cool because it teaches you to focus on the upcards which may make you better at paying attention when you get back to NLHE

3) play your regular game at a lower limit

None of this will work if you dont have faith in your playing style. If the way you play has been producing positive results for a long time then you can be sure you are just running bad. If you are playing badly, nothing will help.

If everybody was able to make a living off of their hobbies the world would be a much better place.

It could be worse...could be a 2.5k run of no sex at all.

Alex,

The a couple weeks ago I had a week long losing streak at Party, and I play about 1500 hands a day so this was something like 7500 hands, it's not out of the ordinary. The only thing you can do is not compound your errors by letting it get to you so much. And I agree with other posters that 6-max has a HUGE variance, it can be very profitable, but you have to be able to stomach it.

Ok Scott,

If affects me so much because I´ve never had one for so long. This was mainly the intention of this post: To know if this is normal and to know for how long does your streaks last.

I am on a break now. I just couldnt get online without passing by...
