Rivered straight, what to do?

Postby Subzero_Wins » Mon Sep 10, 2007 1:14 pm

Opponent is a 33/23, pretty aggressive LAG

Poker Stars
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.25/$0.50
6 players

Hero has a full stack, Villian has a $140 stack

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is Button with [9h] [8d]
3 folds, Hero raises to $2, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: [Td] [2s] [7c] ($6, 3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $4.5, SB calls, BB folds.

Turn: [Th] ($15, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: [Jh] ($15, 2 players)
SB bets $10, Hero...?

Results:
Final pot: $35

The question is, does he call with enough hands here to make a push worth it with the pair on the board? JT seems like a pretty likely hand and it could always be a crappy played 77 or 22, I'm assuming that the only hand that I beat that will call a raise is a lone T, but does KT, QT, T9, and T8 make up enough of his range to push this? Also, Dr. Handles seems to think that I might not even get called by a T, in which case I'm only getting called by hands which beat me.

Thoughts?

i think that the problem with hero's mini raise on the river can be that villain may easily perceive it as weak and given his stats, stack and style of play he can push all in. In that case, hero doesn't really know anything anymore other then he should be folding because i don't think he can easily call an all in on the river with str8 on a paired board and hands that beat Hero well within Villains range..
