45s In Position For a raise

Postby Zuccala » Tue Sep 11, 2007 5:44 am

$20NL

I have $25 OTB

Villan has $55 in MP

Villan raises .60, LP calls, I call with [4c][5c], BB calls

flop [Ad][4s][5s] $2.40 (4 Players)

BB checks, Villan bets $2, LP folds, I push or raise to $6????

Just curious if I want to push or raise to $6. Obviously I am not folding, this is why I am playing this hand. I pushed and got called by AK and he hit his K on the river, Now I am am curious if I got to agro and should have just raised to $6 and then played from there? I just did not want him calling and have another [s] come and ruin my action.
2008 Goals:

1. Make $40K by year end.
2. Play at least 100hrs a month.
3. Read 5-10 new Poker Books w/ notes.
4. Become regular at $2/$4 FR
5. Try some $5/$10 FR
6. Work on Game non-stop.

I don't think you want to push him off his hand. What if he has A9 or A10? He may not call or may not call with AK even. After his bet the pot is 4.60. How about make it $8 or $9. Too often the hands that beat you call the allin and the hands you are beating will fold. You can get it in on the turn and opponent will feel more compelled to call with AK because the pot is so big.

Push isnt bad if he will call. But like above poster said, he might get away from other hands if you push, but the board is draw heavy he might put you on a draw. A raise to 7 is fine.
