The 30GB ones is a gen 5 ipod and the 80GB would have to be a gen 6 model. I'm guessing there is little difference in price to cover the cost that they paid for them and isn't representative to current market value of the older device.
From apple's website, they say the 30GB is about 7k songs and the 80GB is about 20k songs. If you are only gonna put music on it, then 30 would probably be enough but if you are gonna put video on there, I would go for the larger one. There are also some new wizbang type features to the gen 6 model.
