2 $25NL hands

Postby scarface » Sat Jun 11, 2005 10:20 pm

Ok, I think my game is improving, a little, I wanted to post some laydowns I made too but they're a lot harder to find, please let me know what you think of these though:

Hand #1

I usually don't have much luck with suited connectors, so I've been avoiding them unless I am on the button or CO, and won't call a big raise with them. I've been really trying to pay more attention to my position, even more so than usual. CO is a calling station and BB is sLAP.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

UTG+1 ($44.11)
MP1 ($35.2)
MP2 ($20.4)
MP3 ($17.25)
CO ($28.48)
Hero ($30.02)
SB ($26.85)
BB ($48.9)
UTG ($11.66)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [8s], [9s]. SB posts a blind of $0.1.
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.25, 1 fold, MP2 calls $0.25, 1 fold, CO calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, SB (poster) completes, BB raises to $1, UTG+1 folds, MP2 folds, CO calls $1, Hero calls $1, SB folds.

Flop: ($4.50) [Kd], [8h], [6c] (3 players)
BB checks, CO checks, Hero checks.

Turn: ($4.50) [9d] (3 players)
BB bets $2, CO calls $2, Hero raises to $6, BB folds, CO calls $4.

By now, I really felt like he was drawing, so I tried to value bet (something else I've been trying to do more). Should I have just checked behind?

River: ($18.50) [Th] (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $5, CO folds.

Final Pot: $23.50

Results in white below:
Hero has 8s 9s (two pair, nines and eights).
Outcome: Hero wins $23.50.

Hand #2

I'm trying to play my TPTK and overpairs a lot more carefully now, but still aggressively. I've stopped betting the pot on the turn when it's pretty big so that I don't feel pot committed if I get reraised and can get away from the hand a little easier, is this a good idea? I replayed this on PT with percentages on, and saw that I was really only marginally ahead after the flop. Villain is LPA.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (10 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

CO ($25)
Button ($56.7)
SB ($46)
Hero ($23.7)
UTG ($143.09)
UTG+1 ($22.5)
UTG+2 ($30.71)
MP1 ($27.15)
MP2 ($23.35)
MP3 ($35.4)

I didn't raise since I was out of position, good or bad?

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Qd], [Qs]. SB posts a blind of $0.1.
UTG calls $0.25, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls $0.25, MP1 calls $0.25, 3 folds, Button calls $0.25, SB (poster) completes, Hero checks.

Flop: ($1.50) [7c], [Jd], [3d] (6 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $1, UTG folds, UTG+2 calls $1, MP1 calls $1, Button folds, SB folds.

Turn: ($4.50) [8h] (3 players)
Hero bets $2, UTG+2 folds, MP1 calls $2.

Bet here?

River: ($8.50) [4s] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP1 checks.

Final Pot: $8.50

Results in white below:
Hero has Qd Qs (one pair, queens).
MP1 has 7d 9d (one pair, sevens).
Outcome: Hero wins $8.50.

First hand - fine

Second hand - I would bet the full pot on the flop and a stronger bet on the turn. The river depends. I don't see him beating you so it depends on what you think he has and what you think he will do. If you think he had a flush draw, checking is good because it will induce a bluff. He will fold if you bet so checking would be the only way the get money. If he had a jack, he might bet too but he might also call a bet. Pretty much check/call if you think he wouldn't call a bet, otherwise, value bet.

Scar... here goes...

Hand1: If everyone checks to you on that flop, you should DEFINITELY bet it... Probably at least half the time, you're gonna take it down w/ a pretty marginal hand, which should be fine w/ you after that flop... I like your turn raise and river value... I don't think there's any way he's checking to you if he's got the 7...

Hand2: Out of position... In position... the LAST thing you want to see when you have pocket queens is to get into the flop w/ 5 others...   Heads up, or against 2 others, you have good odds... Against 5 others, the chances someones gonna hit a crappy 2pr or play Aanything or Kanything are incredibly high, and you're gonna lose a lot more money than you would be raising PF and folding if an Ace hits... I would also bet $2 on the flop instead of $1... By the time it gets down to MP1, he's only calling $1 to win $3.50, with implied odds to possibly take your stack if his flush hits... Same on the turn... $2 to win $6.50 w/ a flush draw, a gutshot straight draw, and a pair... You kept this guy in the hand so long that, by the river, a 10,7, or diamond kills you...
