Villain is 26/20/2.8 over 400 hands. I have a note on him being a very light 3b'er (previously caught him 3bing me with 33 outof the blinds)

We havent tangled for a long time.

Full stacked and I open $8 OTB w/ [8h] and he 3b's me to $26 from the BB.

I decide this is a time to put in a counter, think about simply 4bing but I instead call, looking to hopefully bluff or float post flop.

Flop ($54)

Villain leads $35, this doesnt look like a great flop to bluff raise, as I would do that with draws but likely only flat with a Q or kk/aa. So I flat call.

Turn: ($124)

Villain checks... I was planning to make a stab on the turn no matter what but have now picked up a FD... However I dont want to change my plan and check behind cos his range is still super wide and I should have a good chance to pick up this pot with a bet here...

So I opt to bet $72 of my $144 stack into the $124 pot and have to reluctently call if he crai on me.

Thoughts?

I don't like your flat call of his 3 bet very much at all. Either 4 bet or fold, preferably fold. Even if he is raising a very wide range, your hand is crushed against anything in his range that he 3 bets with. I would wait for a better spot.

How can I fold and wait for a better spot? I dont think this is the situation to advocate that at all....

If I did that id be waiting for what, TT+ and AQ+? Then his super light 3betting remains super effective against me.

4 bet push, and then four bet push big hands on him in hopes that he calls light out of frustration

Fold this time preflop. Wait until you have a better hand (even JTs) to call. If you have something like Ax suited, shove it preflop. Then start shoving AK, QQ, KK and AA sometimes. Don't 4-bet shove J8s preflop, his calling range will totally crush you. If you want to 4-bet a hand like this, 4-bet to like $65. That looks pretty strong if you would also do that with AA/KK.

I agree its likely better to 4b A7s+ [which is what I do rarely when needed] and consequently when I call to try and bluff post flop Ill do it with SCs / gappers, even thuogh the hand doesnt matter much as Im more trying to make a move just for freqeuencies sake, the type of hand does help. As long as theyre mid eg 56s - JTs so theyre easiest to play post flop.
